Hey guys just got back from SEMA and I stopped by the McLeod booth to check out their 5 speed. They had the B and E body trans on display behind a 65 Hemi in an Art Morrison chassis which will have a 70 cuda on it in the future. Here is some info I gathered.

They should be ready to ship in Jan they are casting the box and tail shafts now.
The shifter box can be move 4 inches in any direction.
You don't need the 4 speed hump to convert from Auto
They will have an offset shifter
The mopar trans will cost between 2600-2800 sorry don't remember exactly what he quoted me.
Judging by the size of the trans I don't think you would need to cut an A body tunnel either.

If you have an questions I will try to anwser them.

man that is tiny looking.

january huh. didn't they say this past spring already also? i don't expect to see that thing till atleast 2013. then i am going to need a ton of real world feedback from guys that have installed them before i would even think of buying one.

A friend of mine has on order one of the first ones he will be testing it behind a 608 hp Big block I look forward to seeing how it does.

And yes we have all seen the date pushed back and back again but when it does come out i imagin they will have quite a few sales on their hands

Wow...thats nearly in the t-56 swap price range, WITH an unproven tranny. Why would I settle for 5gears when for about the same price I can throw a T56 in there?

On the hope that it will fit with out getting the sawzall out.....

He is nuts dropping that coin on something unproven. He should wait and see how it works for others first. Seen people out of a lot of money over the years being first in line for an entire new product

Sure as isn't going to be me.. :)

Let us know how he makes out if that thing ever makes it to market

Interesting... I like the idea of options for overdrive transmissions for Mopars.

It looks like the external shift rod would interfere with the upper transmission cross member area on an a body. I am curious to see how the fitment reliabilty play out.

I still think i'd rather edit the trans just for the assurance my tranny isn't going to grenade on me. Besides what about when it comes down to rebuilding it? Yup give me the mass produced transmission any day...

they aren't going to sell many of them no matter what the price , mopar guys have a problem with doing any cutting to their cars because it will affect the VALUE and that there is a value killer. also if I remember right that is a pro shift with straight cut gears, if so not street friendly .

I'm waiting for the Passon box .

John I spoke with Paul he told me that straight cut gear rumor is not true at all. I think the trans has a chance to do well.

I'm waiting for the Passon 5-speed as well, I feel like that's going to be the "be-all-end-all" Mopar 5-speed manual transmission. Will probably cost a good bit more but at least you have the peace of mind of Chrysler engineering since it's based off the A-833.

Not true there are plenty of us on this site that have no problem hacking our cars for what we want, look at the resto threads. The problem is i'm not going to spend that kind of coin on a transmission, that's a 5spd and not proven and will cost nearly as much as to put in as a proven 6spd in the car.

... nevermind wrong post

Haven't read the article, and it very well may prove to be a stout trans. But even stout transmissions need rebuilding. My way of thinking is that a mass produced transmission thats proven at high tq is a better choice because there are more than 1 company making rebuild kits for it. If Passion goes under because our economy sucks whos going to make rebuild kits for it?

I agree. How much is a slant 6 3 on the tree car ever going to be worth?? Besides, if you are doing this stuff with the hopes of recovering the funds you put into a car you need to have your head examined. Sure, there is going to be some exceptions to this, but for the most part......
