Ive got a 742 case 3.91 gears sure grip that is dissassembled and needs clutches and spider gears. The guy who is going to rebuild it said that for 150 bucks he will reassemble the chunk (no new bearings install , (yea I know pay now or pay later...)) with all the new stuff and set the lash correctly. I will be supplying the parts, the 150 is for labor only, if I want it he would only charge 50 extra for bearing install. I thought this was very reasonable but my buddy says it is high?????????

can your buddy do it for less?
$150 sounds more than reasonable for any amount of specialty labor.
also do you want to do this 2 x or once-- if this guy has a good rep & will stand by his work it's a no-brainer. Lawrence

That's pretty good, but I sure would replace the bearings too. I used to get 200 to assemble the whole thing, housing and all so what he's wantin sounds good. The going shop rate is a lot higher.

I do my Owen.I think its high.why don't you do it.its not that hard.I'm sour if you get on YouTube someone's got a vid.of it just a thut............Artie

To have my housing tubes to be nickel welded. Insides replaced (my parts) housing shortened with new ends (again my parts) then everything set back up it cost me $260 That was a Dana 60.

...................Ur paying the bill, so if ur happy thats what really counts..........i think its alittle high....if u need spiders also, maybe u should just get another unit........kim........

PM me the person doing it because I need mine reassembled also after I get it back from DR. Diff

Thanks
David

shop charges 2 hrs time...at 75 dollars an hour..labor is 150 plus any parts

I think for the diff rebuild it's a little high. It's the pinion depth that takes time, and if he's got air tools, a parts washer, and a clean bench he'll be done in about 45 minutes. But, if he's doing all the bearings, $200 is a decent price.
