Hughes Performance 27-25HD - Hughes Performance Street Master Torque Converters

Hi guys. I bought this 904 converter from Summit Racing-Hughes Performance 27-25HD -Street Master Torque Converters 2500 HD and B&M flexplate for external balance for my LA360 We got everything installed, but when we started to do the converter bolts. Converter was not flushed against the flexpate. There is about a good 1/2 inch of space, tried pulling the converter forward, but we get back and forth play. We called up our mechanic buddy and he said to check the button/snout on the converter. Something to do with late model vs early model. So we checked the old converter and the snout is 3/4 inches in length and even diameter. The Hughes has a funny diameter-wider against the converter and then it gets to a smaller diameter when it meets the motor(see pic) We never had a problem before. If anyone can shead some light on this issue, we would gladly appreciate it!!! We worked to hard to get the old trans out and the new one installed!!! Thank you!!!!
