Rear disc Brakes on 8 3/4

-
I love a disk brake rear.
They work very well.
Here is my dodge

I see where this thread is nearly three months old, but glad to see somebody finally came up with a reasonably priced solution to the problem of putting disc brakes on an 8 3/4. Made up anymore sets? Are they for sale now?

I'm guessing the brackets would also work with the 11.25 vented rotors and matching calipers from Cobra Mustangs too. Although I planned on running the earlier 11.25 vented rotor Mark VII stuff with the 54MM caliper (requiring me to make up my own brackets), if these brackets worked with the Cobra caliper it would save me the fabrication headache to use the same size rotor.

These brackets are for the regular base model calipers. The rotor diameter is 10.865

I have never tried the brackets with the 11.25 rotors, but if the math is correct there should be a minor change by moving the mounting holes out .1925 inch from the base model brackets.

The cobra calipers are a bit harder to find in any salvage yard for the core charges. I believe i was quoted for the base model calipers a $90 core charge for a $120 caliper.

Thanks Redness. Hope this helps everyone else.

No problem, now all I need to do is figure out the parking brake cable and how to get that to work.

On a side note, does anyone know the thread size of the brass Y block that mounts to the rearend?? I'm thinking of replacing the rubber brake hose that runs from the body down to the brass block with a braided hose but I'm not sure what the male thread size is.

DoctorDiff.com has sold a Mustang based rear disc kit for 8.75 rear ends for years. No need to make your own brackets, he has the whole kit already sorted out.

I ordered and paid for the kit on 7/5/11 and it arrived today a week later - from Canada no less!. HOO WEE! What a nice kit! Really sweet looking, great machine work, complete with all the fasteners and clear directions with a couple of easy to follow diagrams.

I was getting some stuff together to send to Leanna for her personal touch so the brackets will be going as well. I find it real easy to support FABO members like Charles and Leanna with the products and services they provide!

I think you can use the GT caliper and Cobra rotor, but you might need the thinner Cobra pads. GT folks have done this with with a kit Ford sells to use the Cobra caliper, but use the GT one instead. Most report needing to move the caliper inboard to clear the rotor hitting the caliper.

I recently bought Moser axles for my 68 Cuda and got the 4.5 bolt pattern but to use with redrilled brake drums. Will your setup work with these axles?
thanks, bruce

i just put his kit on my duster a couple months ago and it is great!!

Just out of curiosity, and the fact that nobody's asked. Do you think that this setup is going to change where the wheel sits in the wheel well? As my car currently sits I have the bigger B body drums on my car and the wheel offset makes the tire very close to the wheel well lip. If it would move it in a little towards the leaf springs it would be an added encentive for me to do this.

I saw you at the Wexford show but by the time my bum knee got me up to your car you were gone!

it will actually move the rim out 1/4 of an inch (thickness of rotor) So it will move the tire AWAY from the springs

I am going to assume you have the a-body axles in your application since you have re-drilled the flange. From my understanding the a body axle flange is about 1/4 of an inch shorter than the regular 4.5 inch bolt pattern from any other vehicle.
I can either
1) modify the mounting brackets to make the re-drilled axle flange work
2)I already supply shims to move the calipers in or out depending on the setting of the stock adjustable bearings. So i could add in more shims.

I personally would prefer to modify the mounting brackets. But i do not have any stock a body axles to take measurements and mock up to be sure it would work in that application.

Here is the measurement for stock A body replacement axles with 10x 1.5" drum brakes from Moser. 1.5" from the rear of the flange to the locking plate. My other axles from Moser are for the 10x 2.5" drums and they stick out .25" further. I may be interested in a set of brackets as well.

A body axles have a smaller hub so machining the rotors or the axle hub is not required.

Cant tell in the pic so I'll ask... Is the center register exposed enough to center and support the wheel ?

Hopefully you figure out a solution for the ebrake stuff. I would really love a set if thats the case.
