I found the new front covers with distributer drives interresting... Says that there is one for the '09 to present 5.7&6.4 engines. Does this mean that they have a way to lock out the VVT?

"GEN III HEMI Front Drive Kit
A distributor front drive kit for GEN III HEMI engines is now available. The drive kit is for enthusiasts who prefer to run a distributor-type ignition system and includes a machined front cover, camshaft timing gear, fuel pump push rod and bolt kit. Kits for 2009 and later 5.7-liter and all 6.4 engines are available under part number P5155929. For pre-2009 5.7-liter and all 6.1-liter engines, part number P5155930 is available."

I'm somewhat confused about why they have the front drive *and* the coil on plug in the picture...

Have they announced a price yet? The cheapest front drive kit i've seen so far has been almost two grand.

Yea, that pic tripped my up too.

I have not heard of a price yet. As soon as I find out, ill post it here.

I bet its not cheap.

Maybe they're just showing the distributor drive as an option.

'Scuse me fer bein' so damn dumb on this new-fangled stuff

What the heck is "WT?"

It's V V T or Variable Valve Timing, a feature in '09 to present 5.7's and the new 6.4 production Hemi's. It advances or retards the cam timing to help obtain more low end torque and top end HP. Its a problem when swapping the '09 + Hemis into older chassis...

Did anyone find out the price on this? Any details on what is needed, how it works?

Those distributors have been around for a while, google hemi chip killer, and i think they are a few grand for the swap alone... I would bet it uses the dist for cam reference, and still needs all 8 coils, not a single coil, but i could be wrong.

Cool for the look, but it you get rid of ecu for timing, and fuel, why not just build a old hemi at that price? JMHO

Thanks.... i know all about the chipkiller id like to get some info on the MOPAR front distributor drive kit.

Did mopar just put a part number on the chip killer?

That wouldn't really surprise me, their "5.7 swap" flywheel is just a Hays unit if you check the numbers. From what I've heard their plug and play EMS is just a restickered AEM with the hemi setup preloaded as well. I give them some credit in that it looks like Mopar is actually trying to facilitate swaps with "factory" parts (or at least Mopar part numbers), as opposed to having to guess and try a bunch of different parts to make it work, I just wish they didn't charge stupid prices. $800 for a carb intake? That's just BS when you can get one for half the price.

"Really" 2 grand for a kit to put a distributor on my hemi, what next a kit to put manual 4 wheel drum brakes on my car too. :wack:

Have to agree with Blown71Duster,

I don't see why anyone would spend 2K on a distributor especially since you can buy a stand alone computer that will fire the dual plugs for $600.00.

Let's see 2K for a single coil that will only fire one of the two plugs in each cylinder. 2K for a product that will throw less spark energy than the factory individual coil on pug setup. 2K for a product that will use mechanical advance and vacuum advance, vs a computer that will use a map sensor, temp sensor, hall sensor that will precisely measure engine speed and will allow infinite adjustability.

I see no rational reason for the "Chip Killer."
