My New Shop!! Yiippeee!

-
Oh ok I understand now. 150 bucks less a month is a big difference in the long run. It will be over with before you know it.

It was a local brick mason that has done brick work in this area for a long time. It wasn't mexicans I can tell you that. A friend of mine that works for the brick mason that bricked my shop showed me the difference in quality of work. He and I was on out way to the Guitar Center and stopped at a new convenience store. He said that his boss put in a quote to to do the job but lost it to the mexicans. He showed me misaligned brick, mortar coming out of the mortar joints, and places where there should have been mortar but there was none.

The brickwork he did on your garage is stunning, what a great job. Congratulations on the final inspection! Are you going with a floor treatment of some type?

Thanks..... I have been getting a few compliments on the brick. It might a lot to do with who cleaned them after the masons got done.... which was me. lol They did a great job but they was messy.

I have been having a BLAST!
It should be against the law for somebody to have this much fun!

I called my plumber buddy to come out and give me a price to hook up my shop to my septic system of the house. He gave me a price of $680. The distance from my house to the septic tank is 68 ft so I assume he did the $10 a foot deal. I guess he had forgot about that $100 tip I gave him to dig the footing of the shop. I told him I would have to wait .... I don't have that kind of money right now. So I decided to do it myself using a shovel. I haven't hooked it up the septic tank yet but might do that tomorrow. I have started covering some of the plumbing up as I go. The 3/4" line is going to be air going to the shop from the compressor which will be located in my existing garage. I've got a total of $90 in material.

Sweet now I won't have to ask to borrow a tree when I visit.

Must be nice to be able to dig a hole with a shovel! Up here, you wouldn't get the shovel into the ground due to all the rocks, tree roots and ledge we have here. Hell, I have a hard time planting a shrub or flowers in my own yard! LOL

Shop looks fantastic man! Keep the pix coming.

I hit a few roots but it wasn't bad. What is "ledge"? You got to forgive me I'm not from around here... lol

I know one thing..... I cut my cable wire slap into!! It doesn't matter since I don't use cable. The cable company is very crooked around here so I got so fed up with them that I had it disconnected. My mom still has cable. She said that the cable company wasn't getting enough money so they took channels off. Now they require you to buy a box to get the channels they cut off. This doesn't have anything to do with analog or HD.. she already has HD. My mom was very upset about it the other day since they removed two of her favorite channels. Mom doesn't get out much so its a big deal to her... I mean she started crying. I tell you ... someone at the cable place WILL bust in Hell so hard it will blow the doors off the back!

Garage is looking good.

Thanks!!!

I placed the order for the floor covering today. I got it from http://www.epoxy-coat.com/

It cost $991.90! I sure hope I don't screw this up.... I can't afford to do it twice.

One thing out of a hundred things I've got to do is diamond grind the floor. I didn't know I had to do that but it's all in the prep work. I've got to get a good "profile" or I will have epoxy popping loose. It's going to be dusty I bet. Anyways if anyone knows how to run a diamond grinder feel free to throw some tips my way.

While not cheap and with your skill level I am sure it will come out great.

You're to kind Cliff

I have been called a perfectionist by different people so it must be true. lol

This the part I like the most about Epoxy Coat

"This is not a substandard water based epoxy that will have to be replaced every 1 to 2 years. Epoxy-Coat® comes with a lifetime guarantee! "

I'm going to do whatever they say even though I like it or not and take pictures as I go. Therefore if I have a problem I will have evidence to support that I did according to how they wanted it done.

Only thing to remember about septic hook up is: S**T rolls down hill!!! :D

That is a problem I am having with my system now that Im hooking up. From the pipe coming out of the shop to the pipe going into the tank I have 6 1/4" fall in 68ft. I shot it with the laser transit and measured it. I talked to a plumber yesterday and he said that all I will have basically is 1/8" fall in 10 ft. It should be 1/4" fall in 10ft for best drainage but I just could not achieve that without the pipe being exposed to the surface of the ground close to coming out of the shop. He told me to pull a string along the longest ditch line (see picture above) and set the pipe to the string. When I did that it got the pipe nice and straight and has that little fall I need all the way. I really don't believe I will have in problems now but before I pulled the string it was like a roller coaster with high and low spots.

I rented a diamond grinder today so to have a good profile for the epoxy to adhere too. I cheated and added a little weight on the grinder in which sped up the process just a little bit. lol I still had some gray areas in which would not go away no matter how long I ground. I contacted Epoxy Coat via email and sent them some pictures. I told them I was concerned about the gray areas in which those are low spots. They looked at the pictures and said I was doing a excellent job and as long as those low areas are scuffed then don't worry about them. They all have scuff marks thats for sure just not totally gone. They told me that I can hit these areas with the edger if I really wanted them gone. I still have to edge the shop around the walls. DeWalt makes a diamond grinder that fits on a side grinder. I will try that first. It that takes to long or is a chore I will have to rent a "big boy" edger.

Looks like a fun tool to use.. once lol..

Good idea on contacting them and providing info/pics and questions.. just in case something goes awry, you got proof you have done it to their specs

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Always got to have a ace in the hole. lol

I went to my local Lowes to buy a DeWalt diamond wheel to go around the edges of the walls. They was all gone! I asked the clerk did they have any at all and he said that some fellow has been coming in and stealing them. He said even the other Lowes across town doesn't have any for the same reason. He checked another Lowes out of town and they had some. So I drove over there and got one. I looked at the package and notice the security strip is on the outside of the package. All the guy was doing was taking a razor blade, make small slit in the plastic and remove the security strip. I played thief when I got out to the truck and cut it with a knife and pulled the strip out.... less than 15 seconds. That wheel cost $61!

I went along the wall and it didn't long I was done. This wheel does not play. The previous owners of my house drew thier names in the still wet concrete and it has always bothered me. Well.... they're gone now. :D

That epoxy floor is going to look great, adhere well and last a long long time.
How much did the diamond grinder rent for and did they make you buy the bits for it?

Thanks!! I'm paranoid about this floor not adhering so I'm going a little crazy on the prep work.

I had to pay $293 to rent that machine. I about sh*t a golden egg when I got the bill. I never thought it would be that much. It broke down to $90 a day for the machine, $150 rent a day for the bits, $36 for insurance, 1.26 for environment, and then $16 or so for tax! The damn bits was really what I was renting. Oh I was pissed and they new it. I didn't understand it when they gave me the paper work before they loaded the machine on my truck. I thought it was when I brought the machine back they was going to give some of that money back like a deposit or something ( I don't rent much and it has been a long time since I rented anything so I didn't know the process). He told me the bits for the machine cost $1000 to replace. I should have torched them bastards before I took it back. lol

Marland,
How much dust does that machine produce?
Just curious.
That floor is going to be tough to work on! What I mean is, you'll cringe everytime you drop a heavy tool on it! LOL Just kidding. Looks fantastic bud.
