reproduction fender tags legal?

it is not illegal. the fender tag only shows build codes as does the build sheet. the law is only concerned with the VIN # on the registration matching the VIN # on the vehicle. they are not concerned about the fender tag VIN # matching any other numbers on the car or concerned if it is a "U" code 73 RR GTX on the fender tag or if it is "G" code RR on the fender tag or if it even has a fender tag. this is buyer beware. if the car in question is claiming to have been built with a mess of options and the owner only has a fender tag to prove such, even though the fender tag has the VIN # stamped on,that doesnt necessarily make it so.that is when a broadcast/build sheet and a window sticker become so important, to back up the fender tag when claiming such options.yes it is morally wrong to fake fender tag options and try to pass it off, but in the laws eyes, they couldnt care less if a car had a 426 hemi or a 318, or FC7 paint or EV2 as long as the vehicle VIN# matches the registration.it is up to the buyer to prove to himself that a car is legit with whatever documentation is available and finding numbers where ever possible.
