Anybody have this problem? for the second time now the rear glass in my wife's POS*&T 2006 Ford Escape exploded without a reason. What a mess! Last time the truck was under extended warranty. I know I am going to have a fight on my hands this time out. I looked on some Ford sites and the problem is pretty common. Ford wont admit there is a problem. What a joke. God help them if my son was in the car!!
Thanks for the rant.

Weird. You sure it's not someone busting it? We had a guy cruising around and flinging spark plugs at everyones's glass a few years back. He got caught thank god.

I used to work in the body shop of a GM dealership. The sales department came in a few times to find the rear glass busted out of Envoy's... they suspected vandalism and installed camera's.. To our surprise we found that they were just randomly exploding. So... we brought one into the shop and I found that the rear glass opens separate from the hatch, and when you closed it, the glass was actually resting on the metal of the hatch. I cut the hatch in the spots, reformed them... and a woman from DETROIT showed up to have the hatch flown BACK to GM to be scanned to re design the hatches... guess it was an issue their "engineer's" couldn't figure out lol.

Mercedes MLs had the similar problem. They came up with all kinds of reasons.
I investigated about 30 of them and one even exploded as our truck entered our yard.
The highlight was one got scanned in at the port (there is a secondary VIN number and bar code on the rear license plate holder) one evening and when they came in the next morning, half the rear window was on the hood of the ML parked behind it.
Seems most of the windows started to break at the window bonding strip right above the model designation. Since I was able to verify about 20 of them as there was still a lot of glass left, they apparently changed something.

Funny you mention this Wally. The back window in my 66 Dart mysteriously shattered while talking with my bodyman.I just had it installed in July,so will now go with plexi-glass.Guees I,m on my way to having a full blown race car now.:wack:

I,d be calling Ford of Canada HQ,s see,n your warranty is up.Good luck.
