So, I called off work today because I've been so busy I haven't been able to box up and ship some of the parts that I've sold. Is that a little crazy?

I reckon if that's what you gotta do..........then no.

Well, by the time I get home, the post office is closed. Have a 6 month old son, and my fiance has 2 kids to her ex husband, but I am pretty much the only dad they know. Between the kids, the dog, overtime, all that crap, I can't get anything done! lol. Besides, I got a ton of vacation days to use.

Depends on what you do for a living, and the urgency of your job. For example, if you're the only doctor in town, then taking the day off for your hobby is a little remiss.

I own and operate a small commercial door company, and I've been know to take a day here and there to do some personal things that others might find frivolous, and I know that some of the people who work for me have done the same from time to time. But, no one's life is depending on installing, replacing, or repairing their door, or at least that hasn't happened yet. lol

Sounds to me like your personal time is pretty used up with family stuff, and that's far more important than any thing else. I wouldn't second guess myself if I were in your shoes, and especially if you have some pending vacation time built up. I'd say, enjoy the day and "git'er done".

...just don't let the boss figure out that he can get along without ya! lol

Haha he knows he can't, he can survive a day or two, thats about it before stuff starts piling up. I've never taken a "whole" vacation before at this job. A day or two at a time. I bead blast locomotive engine parts, and while there is one other person there that knows my job, he isn't nearly as fast or good at it. Not that I'm bragging lol, but when you do the same thing for 10-12 hours a day it becomes second nature. I think I called off twice last year, once for a big snowfall we had and I couldn't get out of my driveway, and once for a sinus infection. I guess I just feel guilty, like I should be working. I can give a bunch of reasons why I shouldn't feel guilty, but then I think to myself, I should just be happy I have a job in these times.

Hey totally understandable, packing up parts and shipping takes more time than you think. Remember to change out of your pj's when you go to the PO.

I believe you can have the PO pick up at your house. You have to go online and do the paper work and pay, print the stickers and set a day for pick up. Unless that program is going away with all the other proposed changes to the PO.

Nice to have a side line going that well during these times. Keep it up
