i was looking into the magnum manifolds for my 1965 plymouth valiant, was wondering how they flow and if anyone else was running that setup. also if the magnum manifolds work then why wouldnt the magnum headers? anyone know any useful information?

There has been some talk on the earlycuda mailing list - I think one guy is using the manifolds. I don't think anybody that I have heard has made the investment to buy the headers in-order to see if they fit. I wouldn't think the headers or manifolds flow any better than Spitfires - and since the Spitfires are cheap enough - most people go this route - or the more expensive full-length header route.

Would love to hear more info on this subject though.

HI I am running the magnum exhaust manifolds but they are the 3.9 magnum motor that is in my 66 dart wagon and they fit real nice with room to spare.

Got a rise over this thread. Better exhaust flow from the 273 without headers ?!?!? Calling the parts yard right now !
thanks again

Yes magnum manifolds do outflow most other stock mopar manifolds. But I thought they didnt fit due to starter being in the way?

I also noticed he doesnt mention any casting #s.

So if they will fit an early A wiith a few mods, will the fit a later A?

I don't see how the starter could be in the way since these manifolds came off a small block in the first place. (and they had to have cleared the starter when they were installed on a '90's truck)

The 90's truck probably had a mini starter on it. The later model permanent magnet motor starters are smaller and quieter than the old ones. Mike

I'm just about to put magnum manifolds on my '63 Dart. I looked into using shorty headers from a late model truck but the passenger side was too wide and would have hit the inner fender - the driver's side looked like it might have worked.

Good luck. I tried it on my 65 Barracuda. I ended up using a set off a 75 Dodge Dart. They just didn't fit. I tried shimming the motor up; I tried grinding on stuff. If anyone wants a set of Magnum Manifold.....let me know.

Thought I'd open this can 'o worms again. I've got a good set oof the 340 Hipo exhaust mainfolds. From the looks of things & what I've read, the right side would fit an early A without problems. Not sure about the left side. what I've read seems to go both ways, yes & no. What's the best flowing manifold for the driver's side? The Durango manifold? Mopar nocar said he couldn't make it work. Any other experiences ? Would be nice to have 2 1/2" pipes from the manifoldd on back & have read that that's a no-go with the 340 manifold.

Got the Magnum manifolds on my '63. They are pretty tight especially around the steering coupler. I had to grind the manifold and space the engine up about 1/2" on the driver's side. Also had to cut a couple of inches off the bottom of the steering column jacket. Other than that no real problems and it's nice to be able to remove and replace the driver's manifold without pulling the column! Forgot to try a full size starter whilst I had it apart but can't see how it would be a problem. My driver's side downpipe is pretty tight with the clutch fork and slave cylinder so the cheapy muffler shop I took it to would only do a 2" pipe, the passenger side is 2.25" and has plenty of room. Can't say how the performance is affected because I had a 360 before and now I'm just running a 318. When I get some more time and money I'll get a smaller diameter steering coupler which will let me take the spacer out from the driver's side and make up some new down pipes out of mandrel bent tubing.

Here's a couple of pics:

just wondering what that slave cylinder you are using is out of ?? a production car ??

yeah, slave and master cylinder both from a mid 80s Nissan mini truck - been in about 3 years with no bother

kool,,,may i ask,, what type of pressure plate are you using ?? wondering if the nissan slave is strong enough for a heavy pressure plate,,,

Just running a cheapo parts store stock clutch at the moment. Clutch is pretty light - don't imagine it would be a problem running a heavier duty clutch.

Anyone know how the Magnum manifolds would work on a small-block (360) 67-76 A-body with power steering and column shifted automatic?
