found this while talking cb antenna theory

Yep, I remember my 102" whip antenna..

Reminds me of a funny story. Years ago, some locals 'n I had a small 4x4 club, and we all had CB's in our 4x4's, and for some strange reason, this also migrated to having them in some of our cars. A friend of mine, who had a 70 Superbee at the time, wanted to know "the very best" CB antenna to have

I told him, "The best would be a 102" whip in the center of the roof, but nobody wants THAT"

So he bought a 102" whip and put it on the rear bumper. I had a base loaded whip in the center of the roof. Turns out my base loaded whip had better omni characteristics than his rear mount 102, IE depending on whether he was going INTO or OUT of town, whether he could maintain contact. In other words, the antenna produced directivity due to the car body.

So he was always miffed that "I told him" to use a 102" whip!!!
