A bunch of rich car collectors adding to their collections. This "spectacle" is the reason every Tom, Dick, and Harry thinks they have gold in their garage.

You do know they only have the higest profile cars on the main stage for high end bidding. They have other stages with less serious prices and cars able to be driven daily.

Instead of bitching about Barrett Jackson, take a trip out there first and experiance it. It's not all million dollar cars.

I'm not "bitching". I've been watching the auction before it became fashionable. And yes I know on Thursday you can find bargains. But the bottom line is that every guy with an old car that watches this auction now thinks they have gold.
It is fun to watch.

I believe the first statement is true. The second statement, I don't agree with. There have been some SMOKIN' deals to be had on beautiful cars. I don't consider 30k to be too much for a car which had a 50-60k restoration and there have been plenty of deals like that, or better.

BTW, I have been DVRing the show since Tuesday. The best deals won't be found over the weekend.

BJ has changed it's business model over the years. 10 to 15 years ago if you were not very wealthy you could only go to watch. Now any entry level collector can by a car at BJ but I suggest to go early in the week. I went today and missed my chance buy what I wanted but I will buy one next year.

I gotta laugh, guys on here won't pay $50 on an item, and now they are defending the reason their hobby got out of control.
And how do you know someone puts $50-60k into a restoration? They can tell you anything. Do you know if it has the ORIGINAL engine? Not correct, or numbers matching, but ORIGINAL.
You also know that you NEVER get back all the money on a car when you restore it.

I love to watch the auction. It's quite a car show regardless of what the prices are. Watch early in the week for our type and priced cars. tmm

Tell us somethig we all don't already know:banghead::banghead:

Going to a BJ auction in person is on my bucket list. Oh and I felt the cars in my garage were always like gold even before BJ.

Everyone is a bit touchy on here tonight. All I said was that Barrett Jackson does not reflect the hobby. Wednesday through Sunday. Rich guys, dealers, and very view average Joe's. There are good buys I'm sure. That was not my point.

I love it, I DVR the whole thing, can't stand all the commercials.

so, my question is, how many high end cars actually change hands on the floor?? How many sellers buy their cars back?? How many back door deals are done??? Just how much is the show and just how much is the selling of cars??? and who's cars have prime time????
just thinking out loud,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Plum Crazy, thanks for the logical response.
How about something that got BJ in trouble in the past. They leave certain cars on the block longer than others. They just did it again, when Craig Jackson said,"let's leave this one up a bit longer".

All I know is that when I was watching the other night they had a 50 custom chevy on stage for ever, but a nice sassy grass challenger up next, might have been a T/A. Anyway they cut away to a motocross promo, then the haggerty bid promo, then commercial. I get tired of shitvelles, corvettes, camaros novas or a custom chevy as the only thing they have on during the auctions.

Relax, this is one of those things that you can do NOTHING about. BJ is not the only reason the hobby got expensive. Last I checked they don't make these things anymore. Look at Okeefe-Merritt (sp) ranges from the 50's. What did they run brand new, a couple hundred bucks? Boughta restored one for the wife a few years ago or $3500. There is a simple solution, take up a different hobby......

I perceive it as nothing more than a really bad movie. It's a typical auction, a game to play the buyers and the sellers so the auction makes money! In this case the floor is so far spread out, try and track the bidders, or,,,
There is zero entertainment value in this atmosphere as far as I'm concerned.

6770, I gotta agree. There are a lot of us here that do the UNTHINKABLE to our classic cars, like drive and race them. The people that know how to work on muscle cars and enjoy them have been priced out of the market. I am glad that some of the historic and special cars have been preserved, but muscle cars were meant to driven HARD, not stashed away in a warehouse.

Hey Ink,
I've been in this hobby with my dad for over 40 years. Don't tell me to relax. I forgot more about cars than you will ever know.

I don't get too juiced up about the Friday and Saturday cars. They are way too high end for all of us unless we're millionaires. tmm

I just hate what shows like BJ do to the hobby. People see the same make of model car that they own, on the block at BJ, and it sells for high five figures or even six figured, and they instantly believe that they are sitting on a gold mine, and start asking extraordinary prices for their cars or parts for them. Between BJ and the other TV auctions, and eBay, the cost of being in the hobby has climbed exponentially over the last ten or so years.
