The factory Saginaw pumps should be fine I was told to drill out the oriface hole at the pressure inlet 1/64" greater than it is stock. I never had issues.
The trick pump is the modern sagnaw pump with the aluminum housing and remote or plastic resivour. You see them in the Circle Track supply places like Speedway Motors.
