No, but the carb application must be small for the engine in order to do that. An excellent example of this is the OE AFB on the 440 in like 1967. Those AFB carbs had no secondary air door. They were rated at 600 cfm on top of the 440's.

A current 600 AFB from Edelbrock minus the air door on a 318/360 would, IMO, without actually knowing, be a bad thing.

It is also possible to add a second accel pump to the secondary side of the Edelbrock AFB carb.
