whats the fastest you been stock frontend

-
Had the needle well past 150 in my '68 GTX.Was told by a GTX nut that I was probably going bout 165 mph. I was crappin but the guy in the passenger seat thought it was cool, did I say he was smokin a joint? :iconbigg:

In 1992 I AVERAGED 158 MPH in a '72 Roadrunner between Conyers GA and Augusta Ga on I20. all stock suspension, steel belted front tires, and Good Year PolyGlass on the rear. I should be dead. lol David

Sir, I commend you, on your achievements.

nothing like cooking along at break neck speed for miles and miles.

Best I did was 125 to 145 for about 11 miles in the back woods highway.
I did it every morning on the way to work for several years. I did it for therapy and proper mental alignment with the world.
Stock 78 monte carlo suspension with a 462 ci olds connected to .229 rear end.
Finally one day in the middle of the night, my driveshaft exploded and my transmission disappeared. I blame most of that on aliens and a small portion of it on an imbalanced driveshaft. All was left was a small piece of tranny bell housing hanging on the engine. We coasted to a stop and had to get a lift home from my friend I had passed several minutes prior.

Sad thing is at the time i didn't know i was going that fast. I knew I was flying just not that fast. I was shocked that when I got where I was going only 45 min had past and it should have taken 2 hours at the speed limit. later I looked it up and it's 148 miles. David

whats the fastest you have been on a stock frontend????no rack and pinion or a arms..just the stock k and uca and lca from ma mopar ........:burnout:

Assuming you;re not restricting this to drag racing?

My '74 Cuda, small block w/NO2, verified by CT State Trooper radar - 147mph.
My '71 Newport, big block w/NO2, more than 130 because that's where he let off. My speedo buried at 125.

some good post and speed ..now how fast at the drag strip?????drag cars or street strip cars..any body in the 8/9 in the 1/4 mile ?????:glasses7: oh in a car ...:D

Speedo pegged 120+ for 2+ hours, on I-70 east bound through Nebraska. Started around midnight. Cut off 2 hours of drive time from CO to MI. BTW, 72 Demon 400/727, std. /6 front end.......scary yes, fun, ABSOLUTELY!!
I-70 runs through Kansas, I-80 through Nebraska. If you pulled that off in Nebraska many cudos....

i did 130 back in 1990 in my 340 4spd duster. after that it got real scary. to this day i have the same stock suspension ( new bushings of coarse) 4 piston sbp brakes and i've been 9.18@ 147. with no problems. the only thing i'm changing is the disc brakes to the wilwoods just to lighten up the front end and a better wheel selection. my car always stopped good so i never changed them.

whats the set up small/big block????

Went 121 in my 70 Bee with the 4 bbl only working on the front 2bbls. built 383 4spd 391's. Later in a street race against a 87 GN (didn't know what they were at the time) A school buddy had a 69 Charger with an originial daytona wing - 400 BB auto 323's raced this guy for about 2 miles on a highway. I look over at the speedo and All I see is the needle WAAAY over in the 150 area- I figured about 140+ we beat that GN but not by much...SOB was fast.

Once you go over about 70 MPH the aerodynamics becomes much more important than everything else. That's why my minivan is more stable at 80 MPH than any of my old cars I've had.

Let me preface this with I was en-route to the hospital (not that it makes it right).....In my Barracuda, 129 MPH in a 35 MPH zone according to the police radar :eek:ops:.....and no ticket (very long story).....but that was back when I was young and stupid....now I'm old, and a little less stupid :D.

I agree I thought this was the RACING section. Not the BS section. Next someone will post when they where driving 206 mph on a dirt road and jumped over the MOON.

By the way I've already posted my numbers from the DRAG STRIP with a time slip for prove. Not some BS with a speedometer that may be 40 mph off.

Just saying.

Sorry folks, I started reading this on page 3 (Woops!)

My car runs 122 every pass in the 1/4, but I have seen 127 on my GPS leaving my foot in it a second after the stripe.....how's that.

Jeez- just cause some of us don't have a (quote) race car doesn't mean that we still don't race. If I want to brag about my drag car that I had, I would have done so- however, some guys dont or wont race at the track and therefore won't have any time slips, or maybe just can't afford it.. YES your correct- this is the RACING section but if you don't like what you read- get over it before I call the WAAAAbulance on you.:argue:

whats with jan....???? seems every post someone has to get there g-string in a bunch(picture that if you will) :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: oh sorry maybe i shouldnt be posting in this post ..:protest::protest::protest::protest::protest:

Not trying to step on toes but...this is a A-body Mopar forum in the RACING section.

I've driven new corvettes when I worked at Chevy dealerships over 160 acording to the factory speedometer...but I really don't think anyone gives a rats a$$ about that on a MOPAR A-body Racing forum.

Like before just saying.

muscles whats the set up back and front lol 9.30 is hauling :prayer:

I was told by the guy I was racing that on his aftermarket race speedo- we were side by side at 155mph. The good ole days when I was young, dumb, and full of ... Luckily- the cops were all at Krispy Kreme because we did that in a 35mph zone. 1975 Duster with 360 -slightly modified- with a 904 trans and 323 gears. My Porsche 944 non-turbo only gets up to about 150mph, it may be slower, but handles the curves soooo much better! Oh- at 120mph when going around a slight long curve is fun, right up until a semi passes you and you catch his wind and the front of the car gets real light. These were all done on race approved roads btw. hehe

Circa 1972 - 165 MPH in a 70 Superbird 440 sixpack 4 speed on I-95 near Ft. Pierce, Fl
Built to the hilt, 3 MPG

just over 200 on the salt on a bike.117mph in the 1/4 in a slant all motor car was more of a thrill for me.Bummer for me I couldnt back up my 200 mph run to get into the 200mph club.Guzzi Mark
