1911 lovers! Let's see 'em!

Biggest differences between the 2 is that everything on the 34 is fully machined while the 42 is stamped sheet metal which was faster & cheaper to make. The way the quick change barrel designee is is also different along with a few minor details.

Kinda like the MP38 and MP40! Yeah,I have been a fan,lol!
My first paying job was in a well stocked gun store, boss had quite a nice class III collection and was friends with Gordon Ingram to boot.I used to bounce 12ga empties around with a Beretta Minx suppressed .25 with subsonic rounds at lunch.I was about 11.Coolest job I ever had!

Cool, I my self don't own any guns but my grandfather has been collecting them for over 60 years. He could wright an encyclopedia with the knowledge he has.

Looks like he is a smart man and chose wisely!

Does he have any H&K's in his collection?

These were some of my favorites, and would have been stellar investments if I had any foresight at the time.

I would love to see a list of his toys!

I bought this Sig Sauer 1911-22 a little more than a month ago. I have put thousands of rounds through it. It is a sweet shooting gun and deadly accurate. I love this gun. It is a bit of a pain to field strip, bit I own a Ruger Mark III as well, and that is the worst gun ever to break down.

You mean they made the Mark II ever harder to take apart?? I have, as the wife calls it, a mini rifle Mark II, if I remember right it has a 10" barrel. I dont think getting it apart is all that bad, it is putting the damn thing back together. A former shooting buddy has the same firearm. He ran 40,000 rounds thru it once before cleaning. And surprisingly it still performed well before he cleaned it. Sure do miss the days of going to a gun show and picking up a case of 11000 rounds of 22lr for next to nothing......

Not a 1911 but it is one of my favorites to shoot....has been a while since I fired it. To date it has only broken one nose, tried to tell the guy to keep his glasses several inches form the scope.....Nothing quite like touching off a 50 BMG round.....

I only have one 1911. It just so happens to be the 1911...An original, 1918-manufacture, WWI-issued 1911. I know the story of the soldier that carried it...Got it from his grandson during an estate sale. Came with an original WWI belt, holster, two-mag pouch and two original mags. One's loaded with very old ammo, but the headstamps on the case indicate that the rounds are newer than the pistol. I picked up everything listed for an absurdly low price.

There's not much bluing left on the frame and slide. It looks like the safety and slide release have been replaced, but whoever did it used correct parts. The grips are all there but pretty delicate. The barrel looks to be pretty shot out, but is stamped properly to be the correct barrel that could have come in the pistol.

The pistol has been disassembled, carefully cleaned, reassembled and function-checked, but I doubt I'll ever shoot it. It's more a collector piece than anything else.

The pistol has a nice history...The pistol was carried in Germany and France during WWI, then somehow came back home and served as a plinking gun for the next thirty or forty years...Then essentially sat in a 30-cal ammo can until it was found after the owner's death.

I plan on...Leaving it alone. I keep it oiled up and stashed away. If I ever purchase another 1911, that one will be a shooter...But this is one of fifteen guns, so I have more than enough stuff to shoot with right now.

Outstanding.....a former co-worker had an original issue one. His was a shooter. Was pretty loose and not at all accurate but it was neat firing a weapon with that much history. Chris got his from an estate sail as well.....

Oh darn ! A thread about guns...............:blob:

VERY NICE Josh ! You're going to have to show Dean and me that one. Can't wait. Got some nice Gen2 Glock 22's & 23's in.

Knuckle..........BEAUTIFUL Job.....I'm envious to the max. Have Colt Mk IV Series 80 and Kimber Pro Carry II HD and trying to convince wife more are necessary.

Mine;

maybe someday... not yet though...plenty of guns, just not a 1911 yet.

Ouch...By the looks of things, that was an original 1911, pre-A1, too. Was it sitting in saltwater for a long time or something?

BargeAhead: yeah, I'll bring it by sometime for you and Dean to take a look...By the way, if you're not doing anything tomorrow night, we're playing at The Stop...

I found it at my parent's place while putting a foundation under the house for them a couple years ago. As far as we have been able to figure out, the house was started in or around 1914.

When I was 13 or so (a very long time ago) I also found an old Spanish revolver under a log about 100 feet or so from where this one was discovered.

Thanks Bargeahead! -sounds like you have or work in a gunshop?

Inkjunkie -helluva nice find! Thanks for posting it!

Jaws -still want to know more about yours, guessing it's older than I thought, small pic and the target sights kinda threw me.

Those older Colts aren't getting any cheaper from the few I've seen in local pawn shops. One shop here has several -$1000 to $1800 I think

On the other hand, some of the stuff I used to work on runs up to about $4500 new.

Mine was made in 43, the gut I bought it from put the match sights and barrel on it.

Even though this is a S&W LAPD Commemorative, I still hook it up often, I'm too old not to enjoy what I have . Just ordered a Noveski AR 15 since there are made right here where I reside.

That looks like a nicer looking version of my S&W 39-2. I love that gun too, but the extractor is getting worn and is not always able to cleanly eject the used casing and I get jams.

RIA with Novak tritium 3 dot fully adjustable sights, feed ramp and throat polished by TJ Firearms here in Colorado. Feeds everything all the time. The mini is a Sig P238, super accurate for what it is but not cheap. Quarter size holes at 7 yards if I do my part. :)

Oops, here's the pics, lol.

Nothing but Wilson Combat mags for my 1911. Grips are Wilson Combat G10.

Yes Sir, that's the Commander version. Deadly accurate once I got decent sights on it using Federal 230 gr. FMJ or Winchester 230 gr. flying ashtray hollow points. ;)

Here's my long range .300 :)

Both my rifles have Burris scopes made right here in Colorado.
