i have schumacher engine swap tri y headers in my 440 duster now but im looking at going for a bigger diameter tube. i dont want tti's, so i wanna go with Hooker Super Comp 2 Inch fender wells. but i have a few questions...

1. can i just cut the inner fender where the headers will exit and still have enough strength there ? ( i remember seeing a 440 duster at the mopar nats that had no inner fenders and no roll cage bar bar support si im thinking this would be okay )

2. And will the starter be trapped ?

Pictures will be appreciated

heres the headers http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HOK-5215HKR/

I have a set in my 69 Dart with 440. I had to cut them apart and reposition a bunch of tubes so I could turn my front tires or they would rub the header tubes. I can now turn the steering wheel lock to lock without any contact.
Even after all that work, I would do it again in a minute. Fenderwell headers are freakin COOL looking!
Currently they're black, but I might paint them white for that late 60's/early 70's look.

14 inch tires on the front, no tire rub on header. there is a patch panel that goes on after header is installed. looks very clean.

I wann do someting similar to my 71 Duster but IM only putting in a 383 got any info I have 16x7 tire but am gonna change to 16x6's or 4's

Hotrodsather, I did the swap years ago in a Demon. IMO, fenderwell is the only way to go! And as George R stated above, they just look so cool! I did the Direct Connection K-member, solid mounts, and the Hooker Super Comps, all with the original /6 front suspension.

hi,
how much do u want for your schumaker tri-y headers since u want the fender well headers instead.
send me a pm on the price. check out bigblockdart.com for info on those headers. go to the tech section.

I run the 2" Hookers in my 74 Dart Sport with a 440. There is no strength issues with cutting the inner fenders. You do have to trim the rocker panel brace underneith the car as well. The starter is all open. It is very nice to access.

any one know if the hooker 2" fenderwell headers will work on any of the angle plug heads like procomp or edelbrock?

Street car or drag?

If you cut a hole and run them through it and leave the rest of the inner fender in you should be good. If you take them out all the way a brace like the ones in the pic should be installed.

Also some trimming of the rocker panel brace may be needed to clear where they go under the car.

That's a nice car! Pretty much what I am doing, right down to the tilt nose!

I'll likely build my headers. Nothing out there is truly satisfactory other than TTI,Doug's and those are beyond my reach. Box of J bend's here I come! Just need flanges....

Ya it sure is. That's Allyoopmgv's car.

Myself i wanted to cut it all out, in this pic i had just finished the cutting :-D no pics of the braces i made but i made some for the front and back of the towers. Still in the works of coming up with a main tube brace idea ones the car comes out of storage that its been in for 4.5 years now:sad8:

Hope some of this helps

the strenght of your unibody isn't as much as a issue as the performance of the headers...

from my ol' Direct Connection manual...equal length primaries, around 33" long for optimum performance

I had a set on my fenderwell headers on my first Duster (Black w/Missle scheme pictured below)....in 1976...tubes veried more than 12" in length and some were over 50" long...and couldn't run much bigger than a VW tire on front.....they sucked!!!

THEWHITEZOMBIE....however...with what you removed....you better be putting some re-enfocement in there. Preferably some forward down tubes attached to the inner cage I did not notice/see

unless you are in my class/division....."coffee getter"

In my reply i said i wasnt done yet and i know that down bars need to be done to retain what strenght is needed. Just dont have the time right now and the car has been in storage since 08':violent1:
