I have a very large model train collection collection, Lots of stuff from the late 70s and 80s. Anyone have an idea were I cant get values from ?

Probably not the fastest, but searching for the same stuff on ebay will probably get you the most realistic values.

There are going to be exceptions(some Lionel and imported brass for example), but I don't think most of the stuff from that era is going to be worth a ton. It's not old enough to really be "Collectable" but not nearly as nice as what's out these days.

I have a pretty good collection of HO trains. Mostly from the lat 50's and 60's. At last count I had 30+ engines, alone. lol
Also have a number of Lionel post war (1946-1952) pieces, and a small collection if late early 70's "N" gauge trains. Haven't messed with them since we moved to Georgia back in '86, though.

I collect N scale .....mostly New Haven stuff. Value depends largely on brand, and condition. My brother in law owns a train store in winsted CT. , so I can always get a good idea on value from him. Adam, what scale stuff do you have?

Mostly HO scale. Theere may be some stuff that is older then the 70s. It was my fathers collection so there could even be some stuff from the 50s in it.

Most of what I have found on ebay looks to be in the $10-25 range but I must have 10-15 boxes full. I also have a huge collection of small highly detailed Military trucks, tanks and Jeeps. I believe they are also HO scale.

I what sounds to be a similar collection of trains in HO from when I was a kid. Lot's of the stuff was hand-me-down so it was as old maybe as the 50's. I decided I was never going to have room for it again so I sold it off. I got between $5 $25 for the buildings and bridges and same for the box cars and most engines. A few engines I had were worth $50 or so. I was left with a lot of extra stuff and things no one wanted by themselves, including the track. I traded it all to a lady with boys for her collection of collectible dolls, then I sold the dolls and stuck the $$ in my two girls savings.

Thats what Im planning on doing with it. Its gonna just sit around, be in the way and collect dust. I rather sell the stuff and put it in the bank for the kids and let it collect interest.

Looks like the Minitanks are worth more then the trains.

I've been modeling railroads since I was about nine.

What are you looking for, anything in particular ??

I found 2 boxes labels 027 trains. They all appear to be made from brass and they are older then the 70s.

What manufacturer, Adam? If it's from a company like PFM (Pacific Fast Mail) or one of the other high end all brass outfits, it could be worth a few bucks.

I believe it all Lionel but theres at least one thta has no marking. That one looks older then the rest, Probably 40s early 50s, I think the Lionel is gotta be 50s.

They have seen better days though, They look to be missing parts.

theres a model railroad show/swap meet this weekend at the Big E in springfield Mass. if you could get there that would be a great place to get top dollar for your stuff.

Post up some pics.

Adam,

Can you post, or send pictures of the lionel 027 stuff?

Bill S.

Maybe we will soon see a modeltrainsonly site. I have a bunch of stuff too and have been thinking of getting rid of but what I am wondering are there any good pictures of layouts here?

Geez, Adam, Mopars, guitars and trains. You are a wierdo.

Those military items may be Wiking (Viking) from Germany, or RoCo.

Those have held their value quite nicely, and are probably worth more than you might think. $10 or more each.

Almost anything brass is $$$

Older HO can be valuabe if you find the right market.

My wife liked a Brachs candy covered hopper from the 70s, at a show, so I bought it for $10. That was about 3 years ago. Last week I sold it on ebay for $38.
My wife has a GOOD eye :)

Yes the Tanks are Roco and there hundreds of them. This is stuff my father has collected for years and is giving to my son. Im going to keep a few items and probably sell the rest.

I still have a Roco Dodge Power Wagon radio truck that I've had since about '78.
Been a fan of those (M46? or WC?) since I was a wee lad.
Almost bought a real one on more than one occasion.

Here is some pictures. This is about 1/3 of what was in the 2 boxed of 027s. There were lots of cars I didnt unwrap.

The first two engines above are brass. The rest are metal. Most of the engines are pretty rough. The last picture is new in the box.

There is also literately hundreds of the roco minitanks I found a box of all brand new tanks with a receipt for $300

i dont collect but back in the 80s valvoline had a limited edition 75th anniversiry g guage set that was given out to a few select dealers and i have one still in the box it was shipped in its has one small puncture thru the plastic window on the display package, sorry no pictures its in storage 30 miles away.

I don't collect but I still have my 1966 Lionel set I got when i was only one year old for Christmas, We only set it up at Christmas time each year. It still has the original box, transformer, smoke pellets and wiring etc.

In total I think I have 40 boxes and totes full of trains, roco minitanks (literately thousands of them) and die-cast car and trucks. I think my fathers hoarding is why I dont collect anything
