Anyone collect Model Trains ?

-
Adam,

How much for all the 027 Lionel stuff? PM me a price.

Thanks,

Bill S.

I would be interested in selling the 027 stuff but I have no idea what its worth

Finding out what stuff is worth is time consuming and a lot of work. Join a few train forums and read a month or two, then ask questions.
I'd keep the most worth while stuff. It'll most likely appreciate better than bank interest.

I just dont like to keep stuff that isnt being used. I hate clutter and my house is pretty small but I wont give it away for nothing.

OK, I didn't see how many 027 pieces that you have. I'm trying to get my grandson interested in something other than video games. Let me know and maybe we can work someting out.

Thanks,

Bill S.

I didnt count them but there 3 boxes about 12"X8"X18" full, One is all track.

Just like I suspected-

$10 ea, but that's asking price and lots have 0 bids.

If you listed them for $5 or $7, I bet they'd sell, and you'd get $1500 or more!!

BTW, those pics of the Lionel stuff look pretty rough.
I'm not a "0" guy, so I won't comment on potential value.

Yes the O gauge stuff is pretty rough wich is more reason for me not to keep it around. Im just not a "collector"

Look thru this site. They have appraisers and buy entire collections on occasion. You never know, you may have one or two items of great value. I wouldn't go around saying you know nothing of the value. Too easy to take advantage of you if you are trying to sell. Just my $.02.

Something I posted is got some value because I received a number of PMs.

Generally, "027" is like Christmas toy stuff and as a rule, not worth much. But, like all things, there are exceptions. And with the 027 stuff, when it's an exception, it's a REAL big one. There ain't no middle of the road stuff with it. Either it has little value, or it's slam the other way......and the really valuable stuff the condition does not affect very much. I mean, as long as it's THERE and intact, you'll get a good price. Of course, if it's mint, that helps too, but the worth is still there either way......if that makes sense. I can't really help you other than that, because I never got into O scale. That third rail just didn't do it for me. But that's not to say some of it isn't worth a lot because I've seen Lionel stuff go for stupid money on Ebay. I can give you a good for instance. The girl's pink lionel train set. Ridiculous pricing.....but that's what it brings. If your stuff is old and made well, you would do yourself well to get it all profesionally appraised before selling to anyone here, or anywhere else. Just as soon as you sell, you'll find out you just gave something away.

I did a quick peek at some of the HO stuff, and I don't think I'd go selling the stuff for ten bucks. Let me guess. The PMers are asking about the twelve wheel drive switcher. I have a brand new, in the box, from the early '60s, O gauge 12 wheel drive switch engine. My first few cars cost less together than its value.

Well...like I said, I don't know Lionel stuff too good, BUT Lionel HO stuff is RARE. They specialized in "O" and "027". They even dabbled a little in "G" or large scale. If you have Lionel HO stuff, you really need to consult an appraiser.

Some of the old Lionel stuff you posted looks to be the old "Tin Plate" stuff. That's pretty collectible, even in very used condition.
I love to see some good pics of what you have, and possibly a list.

You have a couple of guys interested in your stuff, right here, It might be time for you of post up an auction over in the "for sale" forum.

That GG1 you pictured looks real interesting, too. Especially to anyone modeling the Pa. RR. They were used extensively in the north east.

Frankie, When I have a bit more time I will get better pictures and make a list

I am going to the model railroad museum in San Diego tomorrow afternoon. Don't know if I can get anything specific for you, but I will try to get a handle on important things you should look for in your stash.

I build HO Diesels.
