Fabbed Moser/Strange rearend vs. Beefed up 8 3/4

Fabricated rearend or rebuilt old one?

I’m looking at doing the rearend in my Duster next month and am trying to decide which route to go.

Looks like a fabricated Moser rearend with brakes and axles is $1,800. Obviously still need a carrier and gears.

I assume that puts me right around $2,300 for the whole thing.

I assume I can do a 8 ¾ that’s strong enough for whatever I’ll ever throw at it, for considerably less. Is there anything to look out for in an 8 ¾, or castings to prefer or avoid?

I figure if I get the housing and add some good axles, bearings, limited slip and gears..I’ll be good for a mild 390 stroker and some spray.

Anybody care to weigh in?
