Can I just add a 25watt booster to a factory Mopar radio to improve the sound a bit? Currently have twin speakers mounted in the factory dash opening, but can't really get much volume at all. The sound distorts pretty quickly for my liking

Help :dontknow:

Should be able to, we used to do it back in the days of beer drinkin and he!! raisin.

Maybe you could find a newer booster out of a junked out Ram pickup. I believe they are located in the right kick panel.

You can add a booster but the radio is always going to be an early 70's radio. Even after a friend restored my stock 72 AM/FM it still sounds like 70's technology. I like the install RetroSound did on CCR Duster, here's some pics: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showpost.php?p=1584053&postcount=164

Here's RetroSound's site: http://www.retrosoundusa.com/

More expensive option but RetroSound will be able to set you up with the same install as the Duster and it will sound great and offer many more options. It even has the "original" look IMO.

Thx Badsport, I have an old booster that's been sitting around quite awhile. It's small and thought maybe I could hide it easily. Haven't tried to see if it works yet though.

I'll keep the idea of a junkyard one out of a Ram in mind, if this one doesn't work.

Hey Demon 408, Appreciate the input and the links. I looked at RetroSound's website, but no prices listed is not a good sign for me LOL

I agree about the technology being old school, but I'm just trying to improve the sound without spending lotsa $$ and hacking up my dash.

I used a Audiovox Sound Explodeer amp in our first fish for many years. I think it is a 40 watt amp. I liked the single on/off button. Others like the equalizer amps with about 10 sliding adjusters.

And there is probably other vehicles as well that have one, I just know about the one in the pickup. Each one of my trucks has one in there.

I don't know how attatched you are to the original radio, but what I did in my duster was replaced it with a cheap one from autozone. It attatched to the dash in the stock holes without any modifications. It doesn't play cds, but it does have a port for an ipod. With that I mounted a 100watt amp under the dash connected to the two 6x9s in the rear deck and it sounds great.

I've seen some realy nice equipment installations in the glovebox or even under a seat to get some nice sound but still leave the factory stuff in the dash. Just a thought.

I can't figure out how to wire it though. Can someone tell me how to attach this to my Mopar radio?

From reading other threads I believe Red is power

There's a thin Grey wire that's labeled "right channel" with a thin Brown wire attached to it.

Fat Brown wire is labeled "left speaker"

There are 2 fat Black wires twisted together....not sure if that's how they're supposed to be.

Exactly what amp is it?

It's like the one RedFish mentioned above. It's a really old Audiovox Sound Exploder 25amp. I googled it, but couldn't find anything? Thx for helping :thumrigh:

i can sit in your back seat and sing for you...............

That'd be great.....Do I get to pick the songs :p

Man, it's been a loooong time since I hooked one of those up. Red would be power, black ground, the other black goes to a chassis ground if I remember right and the others go to speakers.

Maybe the two twisted together are source from the radio. Man, I used to be able to hook those up in my sleep, LOL.

Hi C

I put an AM-FM Cassette under my driver seat. Got it from
J-Miller. Worked out great.

ive always left the stock alone a wired up all my crap in the glove box. my sony explode and amp work great with a remote control.ahhh, the beauty of technology lol

one of the best things I've done to the radio in my 68 RR is replace the radio shack replacement speaker with a correct ohm speaker from turnswitch.com. This is a stock radio AM but it sounds a lot clearer and the volume is now there, i use to have to turn the knob over half way to hear anything now with this speaker its about a quarter way.

I have to agree with some of the others posts here. It's still a 70's radio and if you add a boost to it you're just boosting a bunch of noise. It's still going to sound like crap, only louder!
