The court suspension is only for the dragstrip located on the northern edge of the property. It doesn't have anything to do with the oval. The dragstrip used to be a temporary track in the parking lots on the south side of the main grandstands. A few years ago, the track moved the dragstrip to the northern edge of the track property alongside the railroad tracks and put in some permanent buildings where the temp dragstrip had been located. I always felt they should have left the dragstrip where it was originally located so it would be far away from any residences and the main grandstands would act as a soundwall. Unfortunately, the track never consulted me for my thoughts even though I was a season ticket holder at the time - like that would make any difference. Leaving the dragstrip where it was originally located was only logical - I guess that's why they moved it.
Pishta - El Toro property would be perfect for a dragstrip! Right in the center of the Great Park. It would bring back all the memories of OCIR. Unfortunately, I don't think it stands a snowball's chance of ever happening - the residents of Irvine will complain if even a leaf of any tree in the park doesn't meet their color requirements.
