no drag racing in southern california

YEPPER, ONLY IN KALIFORNIA! Wanted to move to Surprise AZ, but have gotten delayed... Love the ad for RASR (Racers Against Street Racing). Ad says If you want to race go to the RACE TRACK!!! LOL. What RACE TRACK?!

This started happening a LONG time ago. I was stationed at NAS Mirmar N of San Diego from 70-74. When I arrived there in the spring of 70, there was NOTHING surrounding the base, except a few industrial businesses on Miramar Rd. By the time I left, there was a bedroom city N and W. of the station, and the base had greatly curtailed night operations because of the residences. Of course the really ironic part is that many of the residents were Navy personnel, stationed at Miramar!!

I don't get it. Seems to me that IF you were to buy a house right next to something that has been there since the 40's or 50's you deserve "what you get."

Sorry, this is a laugh. I live here and have come to taking every day at a time. There used to be an ampitheate (sp?) that had concerts...closed about 5 years after opening it. Residents knew for decades it was zoned for it. Airport curtailing late PM flights (works for me, i live in the glide path..AND BOUGHT THE PROPERTY KNOWING THIS...) Man, they HAVE to open El Toro for drag racing, square miles of nothing and decent tarmac everywhere. But we keep electing them, like IDIOTS! Street car drag racing is louder than a field of 48 NASCAR's for 3 hours? we give up...

wow there is a NASCAR race there scheduled for march 25th also

The court suspension is only for the dragstrip located on the northern edge of the property. It doesn't have anything to do with the oval.
The dragstrip used to be a temporary track in the parking lots on the south side of the main grandstands. A few years ago, the track moved the dragstrip to the northern edge of the track property alongside the railroad tracks and put in some permanent buildings where the temp dragstrip had been located. I always felt they should have left the dragstrip where it was originally located so it would be far away from any residences and the main grandstands would act as a soundwall.
Unfortunately, the track never consulted me for my thoughts even though I was a season ticket holder at the time - like that would make any difference. Leaving the dragstrip where it was originally located was only logical - I guess that's why they moved it.

Pishta - El Toro property would be perfect for a dragstrip! Right in the center of the Great Park. It would bring back all the memories of OCIR. Unfortunately, I don't think it stands a snowball's chance of ever happening - the residents of Irvine will complain if even a leaf of any tree in the park doesn't meet their color requirements.

I used to live fairly close to a small track Blackhawk Farms raceway, and loved hearing the cars zooming around. Byron drag stip is near and you can sometimes hear the cars. I like the sound, better than the fart cans and diesel trucks that tear down my street now.

Well they might as well move NHRA headquarters from Glendora to Indy I guess Pomona will be next.

I think that if every person involved with losing their recreation "track time", should help the "concerned residents" change their minds, easily accomplished by hundreds of 3:30 AM burnouts in the "concerned areas"

i agree with 69. i would blow my back tires out, flinging rubber all over the whiners freshly cleaned_____ car.

Fill me in other than barona & bakersfield,,

Other than street racing? Think that is about it.

Think Qualcomm stadium sometimes has 1/8 mile drag races and Irwindale may reopen. I hope. [-o<

Would also be nice if LACR ever found a place to reopen but that does not look likely at all.

There is still lots of drag racing in SoCal.

LOL 1/8 mile is not drag racing it a test run. 1/8 mile is like going to Disneyland waiting in line for hour and finding out that the ride was so short that it sucked. to me if you going to drive a car you should atleast shift more then once.1/8 mile is like diving off a diving bored after jumping off the high dive.1/8 mile is like brushing a tooth and saying you got them all.1/8 mile is like getting ready to go to a party and get there and there nothing but pepsi and a tv and no chicks. come on you guy i bet you all can come up with better ones lets here them.

My club, Inland Mopars, had already been confirmed as the Host Car Club for the National Muscle Car Association (NMCA) drag racing and car show event at Fontana on April 22nd. I just received official notice from NMCA this morning that Fontana advised them yesterday that their event has been cancelled. This hits Inland Mopars hard because this was a fundraiser event for the club.
There is still hope that the NMCA event scheduled for October at Fontana will happen.

And this is the real down side of it. Events like this just are not going to happen. Anybody remember Englishtown before the "The Wall"?? Went there a few times before it was put up. There is going to be a Nostalgia Fueler Event this year at Spokane County Raceway from what I have seen. Hopefully it will not be the first and last.....
