Attention all 63-64 dart owners. I'm working w/ a rubber company on another project. How would we dart owners and maybe valiant and cuda owners but not sure on these like to have "eye brow" rubber spacers available for our cars and wagons. I have negotiated with a us manufacturer to produce these. In order to cover initial costs, not talking about making a profit, I would need to have 40, yes only forty people that would buy these reproductions at about $32.00 per set and maybe less. I'm not asking for any money at this time from anyone. But if I can get the interest to move forward, then when the time comes I may ask for your commitments. This seems to be the only way to get these companies to supply our communities of 63 & 64 dart owners. I'm posting pics of these and if any other early abody owners recognize these to fit other applications, please let me know. I'm hoping to create a poll that may help in this and again, I'm relying on our mopar community to help out for everyone's benefit.

Thanks, Efren

Hey Efrin, I contacted Metro Moulded Parts about 3 months ago about these pieces. In fact I just received an e-mail from Mike today and he informed me that another Dart owner (you ) was inquiring about these pieces, and thought we should get together. Basically, the response I received from MMP was if I was willing to pay for the tooling, they would produce the parts (sounds like they gave you the same option). I went so far as to send them a solid model of the part, making it very easy to produce ( no engineering costs) but apparently they are familiar with the Mopar community. As you can see from your poll, it would be next to impossible to get 40 guy's to buy them. If you have access to a wire EDM machine, let me know, I have access to an extruder, we could make them ourselves.

Hey Tin Cup, thanks for touching base. Mike was pleasant and professional. I understand their position. He did tell me about you although he would not disclose who you were he asked me if it would be ok to have you contact me. Glad you did. I'm personally not into manufacturing so I don't know what a wire edm machine is. I've ran the poll for 30 days and actually surprised at the little interest so far. Unfortunately as the ad ages, it will only decline. The truth hurts.

I can only vote once in the poll, but I'd be in for two sets...one for each '64

Thanks for taking the time to vote and comment. We will make a difference. I know there has to be at least 40 owners out there to do this.

The poll is looking promising, less than 24 hours running and close to 25% POSITIVE RESPONSE.

Please pass the thread to any of your friends and acquaintances that may not have seen it.

Let others know by posting a note on the other threads you may subscribe to. Let's get the word out.

Hey Efren, there are a number of other rubber company's out there if you really want to pursue this. I have had good luck with Steele rubber, I worked with them and they reproduced the 63 Dart rear window rubber gasket. (a 1 year, 1 model only ) The sad part of all this is that it is easy to do, if you could just get some of these guy's to go in on it. If there is anything I can do to help, just let me know?

It is possible to cast these out of urethane, if I had a really good piece to start with.

Does anyone out there have a nice piece that could be used to make a mold?

Hey Tincup, thanks for the offer. Glad to see you onboard. Looks like a 25% positive response so far. I think there is hope. I am actually talking to Steele about the rubber seals for the 63 to 66 a body station wagons. They have agreed that there seems to be a market for these and are waiting for me to send them as good a seal as possible to proceed. I'm still searching everyday, all day, I had spoke with a wagon owner from N.C. I don't know if he is a member of this board. He said he had a couple and would drive them to the company cause he is only 70 miles away. Up to now, he has not followed through. He is hard to get a hold of. He sounded really enthusiastic at first but no action followed.

The piece that you sent Mike, was that not usable for a mold? And again, what is EDM wire machine?

Hey Efrin, The piece I sent Mike was OK, but not great. I bought a set off of eBay a while back, and between mine and those, I kept the best 2 for my car. I do have 1 more that I could send to Steele if we get that far.

Thank You. hey you still did not tell me what an edm wire machine is.

A wire edm machine passes a very high current through a wire that can cut odd shapes into any material, steel, alum, etc. Kinda like a scroll saw.

even if 40 people on HERE does not vote yes, there is a lot of
people that would want this, that does not belong to a-bodies.

I used a piece of rubber vacuum line for mine. Split it length ways. 59 cents.

Hello Efren, I see that you went full steam ahead with the eyebrow 'project.'
I would be interested but, at the moment, I am searching for 'nicer' bezels to dress those moldings up!
I even had the conceptual plan to take a poor shape sacrificial unit: Restore with body filler, make a fiber master and limited production mold to make fiberglass reproductions and have them coated/finished correctly.

I actually repaired and painted the bezels on my wagon. They actually look great and sort of continue the color line to the front of the car instead of the cut and trimmed look. This is also a less costly way of addressing the issue as opposed to $185.00 repops. Just a thought but I believe that repops would sell in large numbers if the company that has them, I won't mention any names, would lower the price and base their profit on volume rather than trying to soak individuals. What a concept.

Hey Efrin, I'm machining a plug to use for a mold, so maybe I can make these at home. I have full access to a machine shop, and I'm an OK machinist. So hopefully this plan will come together.

Awesome, I plan to be at "Spring Fling" in Van Nuys Ca. With a clip board and I will be building a customer base for these parts. This will take some leg work but I don't see a problem w/ getting enough interest to pull this off one way or the other.

Thanks for keeping me updated.

You may want to check with Gary Goers, contact info here. I don't recall for sure, and his latest printed catalog is not complete, but I think he might already make these. If he does not, he may be a more cost-effective partner than one of the larger outfits like Metro or Steele. I have had him make rubber parts for me over the yeras and while there was some waiting involved, the pricing and quality have been top-notch.

Thanks for the heads up. I was able to download Gary's catalog. I didn't see the bucket spacers but I did find some other things which are on my list. I'm gonna give Gary a shot. Blue Star Spares is sort of out of business. His site says it is temporary but even before this official announcement, I attempted to contact him back in November last year, email and phone calls, never got a response. Too bad, he seemed to have decent stuff and his prices were significantly lower than some of the other Ausies.

Be persistent when contacting Gary -- fax is best (include your email address and phone number in the fax).

I noticed that outage at Blue Star. Here is hoping he doesn't go away permanently!
