What Year Tail Light Lenses Fit 64 Valiant?

-
I got the lenses today and they look good, we'll see how they fit. If you want a set for restoration then these aren't for you, not the right markings but.....
I picked up a set of side markers for my Duster too.

man the siver band around them looks like crap. time to break out the silver sharpie. at least they are in one piece. i dont see what could be unsafe about them other than to the eyes of the purist restorer

Silver nail polish works good too but don't tell your wife you used her polish for your car. :argue:

I got a set of these for the Valiant too. One side fits pretty well but the other side needed the bottom edge sanded so it could pull up tight to the housing. Then the other side of the same bottom edge leaves a noticable gap. Better than cracked lenses but not a real nice fit.

I just bought a pair as well. I have a NOS set, but will use the Mexico ones first incase my bulbs are too hot.

I don't like the Mexican side markers. The real ones for the '72-up cars are still available new from the dealer. P/N 3587 436 amber (front, also export rear) and 3587 440 red (rear, except export).

Paint markers don't seem to hold up well. At least it didn't on my 70 swinger gauge cluster. I could rub it off just by touching it moths after applying it. Silver leaf worked well, but Im not sure how it would hold up outside with out a clear coat.

Yup, that's it. And to add to the confusion, they made two different backup lenses. One with lines and the other with circles.

Circles......I haven't seen those yet. Cool..........got pictures of those?

I just got through dealing with mr gamez; I ordered lenses for my Sweptline and when they (finally) came in they were horrible! Tons of flash, big nasty knob in the middle of them.....
It's a work truck and I figured they were better than the faded originals so what the hell. I started putting them on and almost immediatly the lowest hole split. When I removed it for a better look I found that the screw holes were machined with a bevel rather than a step. When the stepped shoulder of the oe screw goes in, it spreads the sides of the bore causing it to split.
I notified mr gamez of all of this to no response. On my last day I notified eBay and they agreed with me and issued a full refund.
This is his response;
I see Ebay refunded you your purchase price without returning the item to me.

I will be forwarding all documents I have on this case to your local police department for investigation of theft by device.

You kept my merchandise plus got your money back so I have no choice.

I am sure you will be hearing from them in a month or so.

Miguel

But wait; there's more.....
This is my response to his threat;
eBay issued the refund; your problem is with them.
I tried to resolve the problem amicably; you refused to respond to me. I notified eBay; you implied I damaged the part through a lack of mechanical aptitude. eBay agreed the fault was with you; they issued a refund.
Now; since you have chosen to play some childish game, I will engage you in a professional, legal manner.
I will be notifying the Department Of Transportation of your illegitimate products. They have not been approved for use on any roadway in the United States of America and the do not have a D.O.T. E.O.# on them.

Your threat of legal action is laughable at best, the transaction technically took place in mexico so YOUR local police would have to take care of it. Mine will give me a call and we'll all have a good chuckle.
This is all probably a moot point for when the D.O.T. conducts it's own investigation; you will probably not be doing business in the U.S.A any longer.
In the future, I would hope that you would conduct your business in a more professional and mature fashion, rather than like the products you manufacture.

Now I doubt the DOT really cares about the quality of a bad repop. Maybe they will.......Anyway; buyer beware!

The quality of the Mexican lenses is really hit-and-miss; some of them are quite good, others are garbage. It seems to go by part type rather than from lens to lens; the good ones ('64 Valiant, for example) tend to be consistently good and the bad ones tend to be consistently bad.

No, because DOT doesn't approve anything. Neither, contrary to common misunderstanding, does SAE. North American vehicle regulations do not work on an approval basis, they work on a self-certification basis: the manufacturer or importer of a regulated item of vehicle equipment certifies that the product meets all applicable provisions of all applicable Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. On some parts, such as headlamps, the certification is made official by the maker placing an indelible "DOT" on the part. On other parts, such as all other lighting devices, no markings are required, though the maker may put whatever marks he wants to put.

Taillamps physically capable of being installed on vehicles made on or after 1/1/68 are regulated items of vehicle equipment, and so the maker or importer is legally obligated to assure compliance with the applicable standards. The Mexican lenses are not so certified, and because the maker is outside the US there is no jurisdiction for DOT or any other Federal agency to go after them. So how 'bout the importer? That's whoever orders a pair of lenses off eBay. That would be…you! DOT and CBP do not have the resources or interest to hunt down and prosecute people importing onesie-twosie quantities of parts for their old Mopars.

And there is nothing such as a "DOT E.O. #". This sounds like you have the California Air Resources Board's aftermarket-part approval system in mind; there is such a thing as a CARB E.O. number. It has nothing to do with lamp lenses.

And none of the rest of the repro lenses on the market, no matter where made, are tested or certified, either. Mostly they're just copies of an original, with whatever lens markings copied along with the rest of the details.

But after all that, if you want the name of the DOT's vehicular lighting compliance enforcement officer to report the guy in Mexico, send me a PM.

.....................................................................................................
Well, actually, they look more like little squares than circles but here's a photo of a couple versions I have. The line type is on the left but it's kinda crazed so I put a S.W. type underneath so you could see the lines better. The little square type in on the right.
