I am planing on building a garage this spring.

I have found out from the city i can build up to 475ft.sq
or if i choose to go bigger id have to apply.

I am looking for some ideas for what dimensions i should go for a garage 475 or slightly larger.

I would like to be able to keep two vehicles in their during the winter at times. (Dart and Ranger)

i also want to make sure i have enough room to work on the dart when needed, pulling the motor and such down the road..

Does anyone have any thoughts on what dimensions i should go with?
keep in mind ill also need room for work bench, tools cabinets and such.
Thanks

Whatever you do, remember to put all your work benches on wheels so your work space becomes available throughout your shop..

For ideas, go to garagejournal.com. If you've not been there yet, the rest of your day is shot. You are welcome :p

Apply for a bigger one now. Why because in "todays" standard a two car aint crap, you can't work on anything. Get the floor poured but have rebar and wire mesh in it and have a high quailty coating put over it (makes clean up a breeze and lightens the place up). I'd opt for LED lighting because they are brighter, last a lot longer, and are dirt cheap on the eletric bill. I'd also have a some sort of heater in the installed (if you have a pellet or wood burning stove in the house, just get another one for the garage). Go with a roll up door vs the standard, this will open more area to work with. The roof, go with a multi angle roof vs the standard A style, this will (If built correctly) greater snow load and more room to store stuff.

I went 20x24. If I went over the 500 Square feet Then I would have had to get the pad enginered with A stamp. An extra 1500 just for the stamp. So i purchaced A Four post lift. works great. Also I built the garage around the lift, 10.5 feet ceiling.

475sq/ft will turn smaller than it was in no time what so ever. If thats all you can go make two if not three stories!

in my area i can only go 13' to keep it 2' off the lot line if i got higher i have to keep moving it off the lot line. I'd like to keep it at the 2' away.

Do you happen to have anymore photos ?
Are those 8' doors? Also do you have a man door as well or no?
Thanks for the info
