Just had a buddy help me install the new MSD EFI system on my 69 Dart..After we put it in, It took about 5 minutes for the idle to level out after the initial start up. I have been trying to drive it to let it learn and so far so good! Fairly easy install and about 5 simple questions to imput into the handheld and your good to go..EFI is the way to go...My thoughts anyway :blob:

Thanks!! Wasn't bad but you have to run a new Fuel line and we had to make a new bracket for the fuel pump (My fuel pumps are tucked away behind my fuel tank/cell) so it took a little more time..Plus I wanted to keep the engine area clean so we hid the computer inside the car behind the dash..All in All, not bad but would have been a lot quicker if we didn't have to do the things mentioned..

Looks nice. What were the questions? Oh and the cost? I have not seen this advertised anywhere or for sale.

Rumblefish...thanks!! Cost is about $2000 and needs to know 1) engine displacement 2) # of cylinders 3)return line or not 4) idle RPM target 5) rev limiter 6) timing control on or disabled and 7) camshaft type (stock, medium or large)

They released it in January/ feb and its in most magazines, summit etc.

Very happy with it!

I looked at that unit at SEMA. Very nice unit, and stands up well against the other stand alone TBI's out there.

I will be interested to see what you think of it as you put some miles on it.

Keep us posted, thanks for the info!

please keep us posted your 383 looks a little on the hotrod side
hows the performance and a little info on your engine

like cam , compression and how tight do you spin it

thanks really nice

The one thing I could not find is how much power it will support. Does it mention this with the kit?

The sheet I picked up @ SEMA says it will support 620hp.

The only shortfall I see right now is the MSD will not handle boost. Hopefully they get that issue fixed.

Do you need the cam card for the timing events to plug into the computer?

It LOOKS great, but 2k for what a carb, say 3-500 bucks, can do? I have this debate with a buddy of mine who swears by his FI. If it's not getting me more power but costing me more why would I do it? I love the idea, & would switch to it in my project ----but the price...............it just gets to me......... I know what my friend says, how do you justify it?

A cheap carb is no where near the the efficiency of EFI. If this was not the case you would not see EFI in everything from 1985 on up(or there abouts).

EFI has massive benefits, Just like roller cams vs flat tappet, or good higher flowing aluminum heads/intakes and so on. It all cost more, but the benefits out weigh the cost in most cases.

An EFI system WILL make your engine run smoother, cleaner and more fuel efficient. A cleaner running engine will last a lot longer. Remember ridge reamers? You basically dont need them for a EFI engine tear down, even ones with 200K+ miles.

Carbs are GREAT, but EFI is better.

Better/easier starts, better fuel mileage, better performance, and we won't even get into reliable EFI is (just look at any new car today).

Not bashing EFI here, but the lack of cylinder ridges on higher mileage engines has more to do with lower tension piston rings & the materials used in engines today than EFI.

01heavy - motor is pretty much stock..Intake, now an EFI, headers, crane cam 554 lift 255 duration and now obsolete nitrous system
*(for now anyway). 9to1 compression running 93 octane.

Rumble fish - it only asks for *camshaft type with 3 options to choose from (stock, medium or large) I obviously entered large :)

Agreed and no more running rich and throttle response is incredible!! All in all I would do it again and will get one for my other car when I can replenish my money tree

considering putting efi on my 360 the car is a street car but it runs 12.50
really like the efi but do want to give up any and i mean any power
with your experience with do think it would cost me power or et at the track

Judging from various car magizine tests, if all I really get out of EFI is smoother running, which is kind of subjective anyway, I'll stick to my carbs & wish you all the best of luck with your high-dollar EFI..........

sweet! bet you get better mileage, less oil dillution, longer oil life, longer engine life, better throttle response, perfect altitude compensation, cold starts and drivability at any temp, the list goes on I would imagine.. for a driver, fuel injection is way more important than a mostly or solely track car I figure.
that engine looks really sharp!
Please keep us posted on how it does long term and relay some feedback!

The distributor looks like maybe no weights or vacuum advance. Is the spark timing controlled by the EFI computer as well?

One can do EFI much cheaper than $2K, but you must do more "roll your own" (Megasquirt, Howell) or buy slightly older models used. The advantage of the latest new models like this are self-tuning and easier install since they have more integrated sensors.

yep. this is a nice system. i definitely want one for my hot 318! waiting on my tax return still. lol

There is a few things that Contribute to the lack of a ridge. EFI is a big help.
