Just looking for some good recommendations, I am pretty new to the genre and the more artists I learn about the more I realize how HUGE it is...

I'm going to see these guys live this Friday at the Ogden Theatre:

Fasten yer seatbelt and go watch/listen to this!

HELL YEAH Herbie Hancock is awesome, exactly what I'm talking about!!! This is the kind of stuff I love listening to while cruising in my Duster.

Never really heard of Candy Dulfer until now, she is really good too but not quite the style I'm looking for.

Probably my favorite jazz/funk band so far, I've actually had the chance to see these guys live too even though they are 40+ years old:

Not crazy about jazz, but there's some I can handle.

Not crazy bout R&B unless it's OLD school.

But I can funk me up some~~~~wakachika, wakachika!

I'm a metal head, but I do like me some funky *** wah grooves.

Thin Lizzy "warrior" gets it pretty good! Wah funk starts at 2:01-

That's 1976, but some earlier stuff is much more traditional funk/soul.

Big fan of P Funk, Fishbone, etc.

Great suggestions guys, Dartthunder340 I have seen Galactic live a couple times (featuring Cyril Neville singing) and they kick ***. I saw the Greyboy Allstars last Friday and they were mind-blowing, they covered James Brown's "The Big Payback" for an encore. Fred Wesley was even there who helped write Greyboy Allstars' first album in 1995...

Here's some Herbie Hancock playing jazz back when he actually PLAYED jazz. At: [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DXFRH1Zj0yU"]Herbie Hancock - Watermelon Man - YouTube[/ame]

His great tune, "Watermelon Man" as it was originally intended to sound.

Also, enjoy "Canteloupe Island," another Hancock masterpiece.

Unothodox tune, but a good one...
