So I've taken on some side work to keep my self busy and make a few extra bucks. Its nice to be working on a Mopar again and the solid metal makes it a real treat. LOL

So here she is. The 73 Duster was shipped from Cali to Ct last year. Its a typical Cali car, sun baked paint on the hood, roof and trunk lid, any plastic or rubber is dried and crumbling but Id rather deal with that then replacing rusty sheet metal.

I started by stripping the paint with 80 grit on my D/A, This car has its original paint which is pretty thing thanks to the west coast sun so its coming off pretty easy. The roof and trunk lid are going to be another story. 80 grit wont cut it so looks like its going to have a date with a 36 grit grinding disc.

Heres some cool details shots. On the passenger side of the engine bay they were a bit cheap on the paint. Bare primer every were. They made up for it on the drivers side but running it.

Here you see the factory black out on the radiator support. The car is F8 green Ive read a few times the factory didnt black out dark colored cars, only light colors. The original F8 fender and radiator support are blacked out, The passenger side had the fender replaced with a gold fender (Y8 ?) No black out,

I think my next car should be from California:) Are you doing a full resto or modifying it?

Im just prepping it for paint. Primer and blocking it. It will be repainted the original F8 green and left mostly stock.

Does anyone know how many different version of they used (67-76) ? Im pretty sure the gas cap is incorrect and would like to track down the right one before we get the car painted.

Your car being a 74 is probably G8 which is slightly different I believe. The only other green available in 74 was G2 which was lighter.

Looking at the pictures of your car in you gallery it looks like G2, not G8. Do you have the fender tag ?

Unfortunatly no,...I did find the build sheet but Its barely legible,(I framed It),...I sent out some feelers on earlier threads to try and get a new tag based on the VIN.

BTW,what primer do you use that wont piss off my body man, but will still protect for a bit while its in prep?

Thats a nice clean body...just the opposite than the last few that I restored.

Its the exact opposite of the last one that was in my garage also. Theres almost no challenge in it, LOL

This car was originally a locking gas cap car (still have it). The chrome is rusty, and I really don't like the look anyhow. Rory got the cap that's on there at Spring Fling '10. I'm not sure what it's from, but he may know.
