I am changing ring and pinion using use gears the gentleman I got them from said run 140 gear oil they will be quiet, anything to this or wont it work? I am going from 391 to 323 489 case I will have a 391 for sale and my spare 323s if anyone needs them they will be 65 dollars shipping in USA. Thanks Will towards the end of next week till finished.

AmsOil 85 140 synthethic,...don't forget the hypoid additive if its a limited slip,...Only cause this worked awesome when I had probs with the 8 1/4 in my Cherokee,...first one sploded at 12k,...135k on this one with no probs.

It can be difficult, if not impossible, to set up used gears properly. They were broke-in in one carrier and now they are going into another one. It can be close and they will work ok if not too worn or with other issues. But IMO, the thicker oil is mainly being used an a thicker "cushion" or "muffler" to help keep the gears quiet. Normally a 75w-90 is sufficient and would provide ever so slightly better mileage. Either way, in whatever viscosity, I believe Amsoil Severe Gear is the best you can use.

I know the Severe Gear doesn't necessarily require an additive for a Sure-Grip. But they say it can be added if needed.

Is the smsoil severe gear gonna help quiet things if noisy?

But Mopar Hypoid Additive might,...It did with mine, better on slow speed turns too....New fluid won't fix broken,....depends on how worn it is,...I only got a dime, Got change???

Would be interested in those when you decide to let them go. As long as they aren't broken and too wore out. Keep me in mind. Im in Jasper Indiana zip code 47546, and in no hurry for them if it affects the shipping. Thanks.
