I have been a member a long time. I have on occasion given advice that turned out to be wrong. This thread is for everyone to toot their whistle. If youre a pro tell us your experience. If you are knowledgeable tell us how and why. if youre shade tree like me admit it. This will help new members judge whos advice is best or most credible. thanks, ok strut your stuff!
 
I'm shade tree all the way, been wrenching on my own stuff since I bought my first car. Can't see paying for something I can do myself. The newer stuff though boggle my mind!
 
I'm neither I'm one of those that work on their car when they have the time no matter the day.
 
Niether of them either, I'm a weekday warrior. I do what need to be done when it needs to be done. I've been playing with cars since I was a kid, I'm rounding a corner now where I've done a quite a bit of everything on these beasts. New cars, old cars, its all the same. If I have a question, that's what the forums are for!

No pro here! I know what I know about body and mechanical, but that does not include any more about Mopar than I have researched in the last few months.
I'm not an advice giver because I believe "If you know, you know. If you don't, shut the beep up"!
So I tend to just read! :D
 
im a weekend warrior that works under my nieghbors shade tree i pretty much grew up in a garage i used to help my storage unit landlord he ran a automotive shop out of 4 of the units he was very wise in the ways of old machinery he turned wrenches for over 45 yrs and had dedicated customers who were all pretty interesting in thier own rights one was a retired WW1 guy he was in a calvery unit yup with horses we worked on 1930's-1950's packards, old fords model A's,T's etc. corvettes acouple old thunderbirds, 69 camaro indy pace car, even a old Duesenburg with babbit filled bearings and mopars aswell he would instruct me on what to do and i was his wrench man i ended up learning alot and got free storage unit
 
Like electrical wiring.....I know enough to be dangerous and have dabbled quite a bit.
 
I'm a pro, I know it all. And if you believe that I have some beachfront property in Arizona for sale that you will just love.

I am about as shadetree as you can get. I think I am the king of do-overs. I do eventually get it done though.

Having said all that, I don't try to offer advice on something I know very little about. I only chime in on topics, when someone asks, if I have done the job previously.

i have been wrenchin since '91, if its mechanical i can finger it out... i struggle on electrical stuff a little especially if the system has bosch anywhere in it (german cars VW in particular) i ask AND am constantly reading from various sources... when i was a kid carb'd cars was easy to me...now i have to "relearn" carb stuff but am ok with fuel trim stuff.

I aint the best ASE mastertech but i will try to answer questions or give help to the best of my ability.

Cars keep me in a constant state of learning as new makes and models come out and the technology changes...
 
I feel that I am pretty knowledgable about Mopars, especially the early A-bodies. I currently have 2 and have owned more than a dozen in my life. Does that make me a pro?? No, of course not. But.... I have parted out a number of early A cars and have completely rebuilt at least one of them, so the information I share is from being able to completely take them apart and document where things go, how it goes together, what it does and why, and most important in my mind, what is available, where to get it and what it is worth. If I can help somebody find something or offer technical assistance, I do. Am I always right?? Do I know everything there is to know?? Heck no, just ask my wife!!!

I have also parted out dozens of other Mopar models and body styles and retain a lot of information about those in my feeble mind, right next to the senseless 70's sitcom trivia and B movie quotes!! If anybody has a question I can answer about those, I usually chime in on those subjects too. Gilligan's Island, Happy Days, and Back to the Future are some of my best subjects!! So, go ahead, shoot me a question, if I can help with the answer I'll try my best!!! Geof
 
I was professional motorcycle mechanic for 10 years and and auto mechanic for two until I changed carrers in '96. Won three class championships drag racing motorcycles out of three entered, two at Great Lakes Dragway and one out here at Bandimere. I've literally built hundreds of motorcycle engines and about 12 V-8's from the block up and have rebuilt a few 727's and a NP203 transfer case. My specialty is engines, carburation, electrical, tuning and drivelines.

Having said that, there's a lot I DON'T know about A-body chassis, interior, body work and suspensions. I still learn something new from this site almost every week.
 
I have a shade tree degree!!!! LOL. Pretty much give advice after it is explained to me. Thank god for the knowledgeable members here at FABO.

Im a diesel mechanic in the military mainly forklifts and hydruclics now days. I took shop in high school was choosen for a mechanics program in Las Vegas when I was in high school started at a firestone shop oil changesand tires when I was 16. Moved to a Pep boys moved up to mechanic moved up to mechanic but I was 18 and the other mechanics would go through my work orders and swap the easy ones for hard ones so I was makeing much money at all. Moved to a Mopar dealer did recall work andsmall stuff I was young it was hard for them to trust me which I understnad now. Joined the military as a 63w which was like heavy shop changeing motors trans rearends and stuff like that. Now 12 years in I dont turn very many wrenchs at work anymore.However I do do quit a bit in the driveway for extra mopar money

I did the flaywheel clutch trans and took apart the rear IFS to repair a leak. There should be a 83 944 in the driveway today to work on.
 
I am a whenever I find spare time guy and def a shade tree mechanic since I work on my car in a pop up garage and have to carry tools out every time I want to work :/
 
I wish I was one or the other. I break twice as much as I fix. The only time I try to share car info on here is when I have searched for something and couldn't find it, do it myself, and then share what I did wrong, pics, part numbers etc., for the next guy that searches for it.
 
I'm a pro and own a shop with my pops, been in the same location for almost 30 years.
 
Not going to blow my own whistle. I'm just a guy who makes a living doing restorations and building hotrods in someone else's shop. I know enough to know that there is more out there than I know. I am always willing to help and learn.
 
i consider myself reasonably knowledgable, though i have never done any of my hobby work "professionally". i have been "messing around" with these cars (mainly B Bodies and big blocks) for 25+ years as my hobby. i have had to learn everything on my own and i have done it "all" entirely myself with the exception of the actual machine work and rebuilding transmissions. i have built mopars from the ground up and from shells to great cars including paint and body work. i used to be all about the numbers but that sucked the fun and creativity right out of it for me. mopars are my passion and just about every time i log in here, i am learning something. i try to give advice where i can and share what i have learned over the years. i have owned and worked on so many dodge/plymouth and chryslers that i could never count them all and i still enjoy it. it is nice to know that i can do basically everything myself and i dont need to even leave my house to fix anything that may go wrong. i have never taken a single car to a mechanic for anything.
 
Shadetree. Usually know enough to be dangerous.

Been messing with machines for 50 years having gown up on a farm. When things broke we either fixed them ourselves, or pulled them into a fence row and retired them. This included some cars and trucks over the years.

At seven years old I watched my dad rebuild a tractor motor. I asked him how he knew what to do. He said he didn't, but he said he could take anything apart and put it back together and have it work just as bad as it did before, and sometimes better - LOL!

I also have an agricultural engineering degree and have been involved in designing and developing farm equipment for over 30 years.

So I can give you better advice about your farm equipment then your Mopar - Ha!
