Hey guys, I have a 273 thats been rebuilt, all stock.
What lift and duration cam came stock in the 273?
what would a good performance upgrade be?
what carb/intake setup would go well for everyday street use, and give a little more power?

I am new to this again (its been 10 years since my last Mopar) and all the old Mopar info I had in my head has been pushed out and replaced.

help!

Sorry, I should have posted that. The car is a 64, and its all original. I would have to guess the motor is original as well, although rebuilt.

Well I am not a great tec but I would take the points out and go with an electronic ignition and then of course headers.

Someone here will jump in and help you with an intake you should use with a stock came shaft.
Or was you going to change out the cam shaft?

Allot of our tecs are hunting or working long ours !! So give them time to jump in and help you.
Is this a valiant or a barracuda you are building?
I am waiting on a 4 door 63 Valiant /6.

273 2 bbl cam was.395" on the intake
.405" on the exhaust
the installed spring hight was 1 11/16"
valve spring pressure @ 1 5/16" was 145 lbs
240 degrees duration

4 bbl was a solid lifter cam, I'm not sure about the 2bbl cam but I think it was too.
273 4bbl cam was .415" on the inake
.425" on the exhaust
the installed spring hight was the same
valve spring pressure @ 1 5/16 was 177 lbs
duration ???
I dont know the timing stats but my 273 4bbl was a terror...it revved and made alot of power!

Try the orginal 4 barrel carb Carter 3853 or 3854 and an aluminium intake Offenhauser or Edelbrock. Remember to get an early intkae due to bolt angles. Orginal distributor, shaved heads and 340 exhaust manifolds. Then you don't hace to cut the inner fenders.

Good luck

I couldnt help with the stock cams, but that intake deal is a pain. If it were me, I'd look into either a set of 302s and run a very mild cam with it. At least then any intake will work and they'd look almost stock.

Lots of good info, thanks guys!
The car in question is a 64 Barracuda with a rebuilt 273 and 904. Still don't know what rear is in the car, I will know more when the car arrives.
