Ok so I have been running with one wiper for a while because I can't keep the second on the ball....... I replaced all the bushings after I got the car as the arms fell off when I turned on the wipers.... I have no idea why the cross bar keeps coming off. It seems like it just pops off after about one motor rotation. The bushings I got were from autozone help section multi pack...

I dunno what else to do.........

Dont drive in the rain:violent1:

I live in ohio and this is my d.d. for now so I kinda have to.......

Disconect from motor and run it by hand thru its motion and see what is binding. I'll bet one of the arms bent when they fell off. just straighten it out and it will work fine.

x2 and make sure the arms are in fact on correctly. That is, R to R & L to L.

Good luck man,
Pat

Another possibility is that you haven't completely seated the linkage ball(s) into the bushing socket(s). I had this very thing happen to me, the linkage appeared and felt to be seated, but really wasn't. Not having any special tools, I took a pair of channel locks large enough to get the jaws roughly parallel and carefully seated the linkage balls into their respective sockets.

Of course, complete success eluded me until I abandoned the typical parts store bubble packed replacements (which wore out or broke into pieces within a VERY short time) and (after the second set of parts store ones) eBayed a set of genuine MOPAR bushings. Don't forget to lube them at assembly.

Do you have a part number for the ebay ones you bought. i think that the ones i have may be ruined already from me taking them on and off trying to figure out why they dont work right....

Also;
I have found that if I don't "vent" the bushings before seating them they will "pop" off easy. I usually poke a hole in the top of the bushing with a safety pin so the trapped air can escape during seating. Then lube, then seat bushing. Bushing seating tool; Big vise grips with a socket big enough to go over the bushing duct taped to the vise grip jaw. After this "venting" process I haven't had any trouble with the "help" bushings at Advance or Autozone. The only trouble I have with them now?; ever notice mopar "help" bushings only 2 to a pack while other makes have 3 in a pack? That way we have to buy 2 packs for a complete set!
Good Times!
Good Luck!:glasses7:

Someone else on here had good advice about soaking them in HOT water before installing to make them softer and hopefully easier

In some cases the wiper pivots are in such poor condition the resistance in them exceeds the capabilities of the plastic bushings. Refurbishing those pivot assemblies isn't easy and nobody offers some of their parts. It can be done though and the result is well worth the effort since the wipers will run both trouble free and quiet too.
Placing the wiper linkage inside the cabin is the most disappointing bit of Chrysler engineering for me simply because it gets noisey with age.
My wipers do run smooth and quiet today even on dry glass but again, it aint easy.
Good luck with them.

That's right 4spddragtop. Good call :thumleft: I forgot about that tip...I heated some water in the micro and let the bushings soak for a bit. Lubed the heck out of them and seated them by tapping them in with a socket on the bushing and a piece of wood underneath for support. Put the entire assemby together on the floor on the garage and fished in in from the driver's side.

so I am back to doing this again..... I never finished doin it the first time. I got tooo frustrated and just ran with one till now.............. i cannot get the cross bar on to the second wiper it seems like it is just to short....I am so tired of this problem but i do not know what to do next......
