Hey Fabo

I have a 67 dart with the 6cyl A/T and what i was told a 7 1/4 rear end
it also has the large bolt pattern axles in it. The guy i bought it from said it came out of a 67 Cuda, With no other info.
The lug studs are definetly wider spread than on the front wheels.
and the back side of the rear end looks like the same kind of style as GM 10 bolt pan facing the back, not a 3rd member type.

Im new to the wonderful world of Mopar, so forgive me if seem a lil lost.
Lol, i am, Now with out me goin out and tryin to get under the car to take pics, what im simply trying to find out is, Im selling it, and i am just making sure that im not gonna sell it for give away cheap, nor do i wanna come off greedy, i was told also that the axles could be worth more than the rear end, being the large bolt. I am just looking for a ball park range,
I was thinking around $150
Or could the axles alone be worth that or more?

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.:prayer:
Thanks

Look at the axle cover, if it has six sides its a 7.25, if it is an oval shape it's a 8.25. You could have either the 7.25 or 8.25 in large bolt pattern. Also NO A-body prior to 1973 models came with the large bolt pattern of 5x4.5(5x114.3) they came with the small bolt pattern of 5x4.
The 7.25 is worthless and just junk it, however if it's a limited slip/suregrip (or Posi in GM terms) it is worth a little bit. Just know that a stock slant 6 can break them so don't expect much. The 8.25 is a much stronger axle and has great swap potential. You can easily get pre-97 jeep Cherokee rear disc and limited slip units and put them in the A-body rears and it will a mildly built V8 without a problem.
The 7.25 and 8.25 are the most common found under A-bodies however you might get super lucky and find the big daddy of them all, the Dana 60. That would be worth the most by far either cut down to a body specs or worth a S*++load more if it's an original 68 hemi barracuda/68 Hemi dart rear end.

Thanks 1970Duster,
Yea the guy i bought it from, told me he actually put those axles in the rear end.
And i actually have someone asking about it, knowing that its prob a 7 1/4.
I will take a look tommorow, and see what i see.
Im looking for either a 6 sided cover, or an oval shape?
Ok, Im pretty sure its not oval, but i will doubel check.
I have no use for the rear end, as i am parting out the entire car that it came from.
Im pretty sure My Dart, the one im building has the same Diff, but like you saif with the smaller lug pattern
Are those axles easy to come by? the 5x4.5? or are they the only thing really worth selling?

ok, well im more confused than ever now. Lol
I looked at it and comparing it to pics im finding online, it looks like none of them
the cover has 10 bolts. no drain plug on the cover. i couldnt really see how it could have 6 sides to it. Not oval. bolts are evenly spaced.. Its looking like im gonna have to get that car up in the air and find the numbers off of it.

Compaire these to yours. If its a 10 bolt might be an 8 1/4 which has some value.

why would you sell the rear out of it? if it is 7 1/4 with big bolt pattern I would be interested in the axels and the brake hardware with backing plates and drums but prolly not for that price

Sounds to me you may have a 8 1/4..........Sounds familiar to me..LOL. I have a drive shaft from a auto to long. Because i found my rear end to be a 8 1/4 not a 7 1/4 which i thought i had:banghead:pics will help.

Its off of a parts car, and i have no need for it. the Diff in my Dart that im building has a good rear end, and not really looking to change it if its original..
I have no idea what any of these parts are worth,

Yea thats what i am wondering as well, the car is sitting in my RV lot so its sitting on dirt.
TRying to get it up on stands so i can get a better look at it and hopefully take some pics.
Thank you everyone for all your help and info on this.
:)

Sounds like it's a 8 1/4". I may be wrong but I think if its an early(pre '73) 7 1/4" rear the later larger bolt pattern axles won't fit the earlier 7 1/4" rears. So you couldn't upgrade to the LBP axles in a SBP rear. Another reason to think it's an 8 1/4".
Maybe someone out there can verify this.

I have a 7 1/4 BBP. Complete.

Ok Fabo, i got out today and started to remove that rear end, got stuck with releasing the E Brake cable. but took some pics of the rear end, hopefully it shows enough for someone to be able to help me identify this thing.

Its kind of hard to tell with those pictures. The picture we need is a direct shot of the axle and cover, the whole thing (picture taken from behind the car).

Lol

Ohh lord.. Thank you, but why are other ppl saying its an 8 1/4?

Do i need to get a full cover shot to verify this thing? Its becoming very laughable, as i am getting so many diff answers. Im so greatfull for all the help for sure.
Im soo confused.. ;)

That's a model 20 AMC rear. How it wound up in a Dart is a whole other question!

A full cover shot would end any and all questions about what rearend is it.

Yea i will try to get a shot of the entire thing or at least the cover. there is no drain plug in the cover, like i keep seeing in pics of the 7 1/4 and 8 1/4, its a smooth cover like what you see in one of the pics, bolts all evenly spaced.

From what i see it looks like the same as mine.........No full diff cover shot but looks alot the same..my 8 1/4:glasses7:

Thank you 1970Duster.. thats what i am gonna have to do. Lol
Wouldnt surprise me if its some odd Differantial in it. the guy i got it from didnt seems to know alot about the car..Maybe even less than i do.
