Does anyone use coolant additive in their car, like water wetter or ultra cool and does it make your car run cooler like it claims.
 
Both my cars I ran distilled water with Water wetter and a very small amount of antifreeze. Reason being tracks do not like antifreeze. With that said, I have not had a cooling problem in either car. My Challenger I noticed the car ran cooler, the Dart has had it since day 1 so i have no basis for comparison.
 
I run a small amount of anti freeze and water wetter. Distilled water is also a good idea. Theoretically an engine should run cooler. Although as stated earlier it won't help a chronic over heating problem.
 
I used lucas super coolant in my heat exchanger and radiator.. both run 7-10* cooler now.

I use Evans waterless coolant and find it gives me large and real advantages over any water-mix coolant, with or without "miracle" additives.

Hi Dan, are you using the stuff in the white or the black bottle?

My 340 has performance modifications and is stored in an unheated garage during the cold Toronto winters.
 
The black jug, formerly called "NPG+" and now called "High-Performance Coolant".

One of my first concerns about this stuff was how it would handle very cold winters, because while it doesn't freeze solid like water, at -40° it turns to the consistency of a not-very-fresh frozen margarita. It de-slushes (goes back to liquid) quickly on engine startup with the slightest bit of engine heat, but I still wanted to see how it worked in practice, not just theory. I ran it in three vehicles through two Toronto winters -- all vehicles stored outside, uncovered -- and had no problems and zero cause for concern. I'm not involved in making or selling the stuff, but I am happy to talk it up because it's one of those products that does exactly what the maker promises it will.
 
besides a higher temp thermostat does the Evans require any specific modifications? For small blocks specifically?
 
No modifications at all. And there's no need to use Evans' flush fluid, either. You totally drain the cooling system, flush it out with clean water and drain it again, blow out as much water as you can if you have access to shop air or just leave the system open to drip dry as long as you can, then put in the Evans coolant. Loosen the radiator cap after the first dozen trips or so to vent off the steam that results from residual water, until there stops being residual steam pressure, then forget the cooling system exists.

I ran a higher-temp thermostat in the (fuel-injected) truck to wring more MPGs, cleaner exhaust, and better driveability out of it, with the overboil protection assured by the Evans coolant -- and that strategy worked -- but I generally run 180° thermostats in my carbureted cars, Evans coolant or no Evans coolant, because higher temp thermostat = higher underhood temp = bitchy hot start/hot idle issues because of the open, low-pressure fuel system involved with a carburetor.
