From what I have found on the internet I should be able to have the system evacuated and use modern R134. I may need to replace the o rings and possibly rubber lines.
Also I appreciate your input on the compressor and I am going to look either way. I think I may be able to talk him down to about 75 or 80 bucks with your information and that being said a rebuild would probably make it worth while. If it is frozen I won't even consider it. Sometimes you gotta take a chance.
