look no hands

ok I'm trying to post some pics of the motor so I can ask a question but I can't find the stupid camera's usb wire so the pic will have to come this afternoon when my daughter comes home.

But I'll ask the question anyway, how far down is a piston in the bore of a 400 because this motor the pistons are flat with no valve relives and at TDC this piston is around .080 down, is that about right or has something been done???

I've busted apart about 1/2 dozen OEM 400's and I've never seen one that had pistons with valve reliefs. That looks like the OEM piston. And .080 down is probably about average. I've recorded them at .065 all the way to .110 down according to my notes. (Mopar QC spec in the 70's was "give or take 1/2"...LOL)

Good news is it's pretty cheap to do a 451 with a turned 440 crank, LY rods and a shelf piston.

Looks like you've got a deep pan if the .509 is good, run it! Right conveter and gears and hooking up that cam in a 451 will go into the 10's if not real, real close.

Welcome, hooks! Keep us posted. I LOVE this thread ! ! !

Oh, PS: I've got a good buddy that goes 10.30's @ 130 @ 3400# with home ported 902 heads. So I think they'll be good. As cast, they flowed very, very close to an OEM 906 head.
