put a 4 speed auto or a 5spd std in the 70 and the fuel economy gap would really narrow

They left out a category, looks...the older one blows it away in that one!

I'm surprised to see that the new weighs more than the old.

I'd crush my 70 340 4 speed clone for a new one. I've seen and driven the new one with a 1.4L turbo. I'll wait for the R/T and keep them both.

I'll take a '70 too.

It is worth noting however, that the horsepower and mileage estimates for the new car are rated using a much more realistic/real-world standard.

New cars are all heavier than old cars. Mostly its safety stuff. Rigid chassis, thick glass, miles of copper wire for convenience features and pollution control, etc.

Here goes the new Dart/ old Dart debate again LOL ... I will always think my 69 Dart is the shizzy.. but I'd buy a new Dart... no doubt.

You all left out the fact that the gasoline of today is not the gasoline of 1970 and with that said, the gas mileage suffers in yesterdays vehicles compared to today's vehicle. Maybe the trip should installing a today's engine in yesterdays vehicle as what is done by some. Heavy metal compared to composites should straighten out most problems associated with mileage and power.. I'm no purist and if it wasn't for technology, we'd all be writing letters from our typewriters instead of using the World Wide Web..

If it were not for Fiat, there would be no new Dart to argue about..
X2, not to mention there would be no new Viper either, and with some of it containing the tech from Ferrari, it should kick the crap outa the ZR1 vettes WITHOUT having to use a blower.

The only thing they have in common with our Dart is the nameplate, I don't make the connection.

I'd take the 70' any day of the week.

Ya if they would of just went back to the Neon name plate no one would have there panties in a bunch over it. Just like the Charger.

Exactly...if Fiat did not name it the Dart would it even be getting any mention on this site??....I though all these goof ball new "Dart" threads were getting merged together?

Is 1,000lbs official on the tow rating, before the Dart was officially listed on Dodges website I looked and had to go to a midsize car to get any tow rating, my heavier treadrop trailer comes in at just under 1,000lbs, but a 1,000lb tow rating is just to close, I would rather have a little wiggle room.

If it weren't for Daimler and now Fiat, there would be no Chrysler. You saw where Chrysler's heads were at during the 80's and 90's. How many here would rather have a front wheel drive, I know it wouldn't be me!
