1970 v 2013: How the Darts Stack up

-
Is 1,000lbs official on the tow rating, before the Dart was officially listed on Dodges website I looked and had to go to a midsize car to get any tow rating, my heavier treadrop trailer comes in at just under 1,000lbs, but a 1,000lb tow rating is just to close, I would rather have a little wiggle room.

Yes here is the link:

Here goes the new Dart/ old Dart debate again LOL ... I will always think my 69 Dart is the shizzy.. but I'd buy a new Dart... no doubt.

Well, yes and no. My intention was not to stir up negative feelings towards Fiat-Chrysler, just a bit of interesting info. I was personally curious as to how the cars are physically different. I collected the specs, and I thought you guys would be interested too.

Would probably be better of with out it because they are just ruining the dart by making it some prius lookin POS

I pretty much burned out on this argument with the last 3 or 4 threads that floated around with it... heres my position one more time.. everyone can *****, and complain til their blue about ruining the Dart name.. Me.. I dont see it that way.. I just dont.. I am an individual, just like everyone else, and we all get to make choices.. I choose to like the new Dart.. sorry.. but I do.. I really dont care that others hate it.. nor should they really care that I like it.. but once again my reasoning is this.. when the Dart of the late 60's came about it was just transportation.. it was the cheapest car in the Dodge line.. barring the GTS's and the 340 cars, they were point A to point B machines.. Small, and compact (for the day) and fuel efficient (also for the day) .. HAD the Dart continued, uninterrupted since its inception, still following that formula, this is most likely where it would've ended up anyways.. The Dart of yester-year, was not some holy grail of car land.. my grandfather and my uncle (who had a 70 Swinger) still swear they were total junk.. and they're not the only ones I have heard that from.. They were cars.. I doubt Chrysler knew then that 40-some odd years later we'd feel this way about the old Darts, or be arguing about the new ones LOL ..

You say we would be better off without it? maybe.. but I for one am glad Chrysler products are still around (even if they have had to be helped back from the brink of extinction.. and really.. is it just because foreign companies have had to step in to save it thats the real thorn in the side? I mean if the people who ran it in the first place had done it right, i guess foreign companies wouldnt have had to try to rescue it in the first place.. )...

Again, this argument is, was, and apparently will always be more or less pointless.. some will like, some wont... some will support it, others wont, some will own and drive them, others will turn their noses and look away.. thats what makes us individuals.. me...Im probably gonna get a new Dart.. I will take my 69 Dart out and have fun, and keep history alive, and I will take the new Dart to work, and use it for what it was built for.. basic transportation..

That is all.. LOL

well put, SpeedracerX

besides, if this can be called a Duster, why are people so bent out of shape about the new Dart?

Sorry that a set of numbers set apart by 42 years bothers you....

I have never really cared for modern cars, until the new Challenger came out. (Thats probably the first car made in the last 20-25 years I would consider buying. But thats just my opinion.) I thought that Chrysler should have done that with the Dart. Maybe modeled the new one off of the 67-69 body style?

SpeedRacerX made a good point. When I had my '70 Valiant, I thought, and still do, think Valiants are cool looking cars. Had I been alive in 1969, I know I would have had a very different opinion on a four door sedan. That car was called the, "Ugly Duckling" for a reason. Just like the new Dart, the original A Bodies were basic, bottom of the line transportation.

I did the hear that the back window on the new Dart was inspired from the 68-70 Chargers.

Also the tail lamps

On subject: Well this was not meant, by any means to be a "1970 is awesome, 2013 sucks butt" thread. It was just supposed to be a "Oh, the numbers are this... and that...oh that's different" thread. What a can of worms :eek:ops:

Tail lamps???

The only Charger that had a tail lamp that extended across the back of the car was the 66 and 67. It was a large rectangular lens with chrome bars spaced every inch or so nothing like the tail light treatment on the current Charger and Dart. The 68 Charger had two round lenses o each side and after that they had a rectangular lens on each side.

My chief ***** about the new Dart is that its powertrain is facing the wrong direction ;
other than that , I've no problem with the thing .

I'll tske the '70 (or in my case, the '68 ;) ) any day of the week and twice on Sunday. Lessee here...the 2013 is a wrong wheel drive, ugly, rebadged Alfa, has two too few cylinders, too many Big Brother concessions...in other words its just like every other POS sedan out on the roads these days. Yeah, I'll definitely stick with my '68.

Im not upset at all my friend lol.. I like the new Dart remember? LOL .. and I also realize you didnt start this thread with the intenion or mindset that old Dart=awesome new Dart=crap lol.. you gave a great side by side numbers comparisons of Darts from 2 differant generations.. I liked and appreciated the info

First pic 66-67 tailight
Second pic 68 taillight
Third pic 69-70 taillight

:banghead: I'm not talking about the classic Chargers....

On the promo video of the debut of the 2013 Dart the spokesman says it shares the tallights of the Charger. He is impling the new Charger

LMAO, SpeedracerX hit the nail on the head. When I was growing up Darts and Dusters were nothing but winter beaters and field buggies. Never wanted one, then somehow 2 of them ended up in my garage, 3 if you include her duster.

I agree, I got my drivers license in 1970. Darts, Dusters, Novas, Mavericks, Falcons were the cars you bought because you couldn't afford the car you wanted. That went for the performance versions too.

The difference in the formula for the new Dart and the other C segment cars is now they offer all the same options and goodies that were always exclusive to the larger models.
