Hey Hooks;Impossible to give a quote on shipping crank. They are pretty heavy,but it doesnt seem to matter a lot. Packaging it well,but keeping the size small will help. Whomever ships it,they will need to add lots of cushioning around the crank,and even a doulbe layer of cardboard would be a great idea. Those shipping companies can be brutal,tossing packages around,kicking them etc. Make sure it's well protected,pay the insurance on it against loss and damages and hope for the best.
As for cost,up here in Canada I have found Greyhound and Canada post to be the cheapest,most reliable but Fedex deserves an honourable mention as well. Stay away,far far away from DHL,they are horrible.I have experienced many delays with them.I never chose DHL,but some of my purchases have arrived via DHL (NOT BY MY CHOICE) and because thier dispatcher is in the next town,they seem to think it's O.K to delay my shipment until there are others coming my way,no matter the inconvenience to myself.They did this to a shipment that was clearly labelled priority shipment as well.SOOOOO DHL SUCKS IMHO.
When shipping within the USA I have had very good luck with UPS,and the united states postal service. Just dont wrap the package up in duct tape for ANY shipper,use clear packing tape only.Wrap the box in plain brown butchers paper,print some excellent labels out on your puter so there is no mistaking the addy.
Now I know that many here will not like me mentioning UPS. It seems they can be UPS or down,lol when it comes to reliablility,but I insure everything I ship and never have an issue with UPS.
It's the same formulae for every shipment. Wrap the box in brown paper,use packing tape,print clear labels and always insure. I havent had an issue yet,and have shipped stuff plenty of times across the border,within Canada,from a point within the USA etc.
I'll hazard a guess and say at least $60 to ship that heavy,big crank.
