Nothing but a 1/4" u-bolt does the job. Sometimes less is more.

My cheaper T-bar removal tool. OK, I know it's awesome, but it was late Sunday night and I didn't have anything in the scrap barrel to work with. Believe it or not it worked!

don't you hate it when you need tools to fix your tools lol.

days like what you had are bummers. hope things look up for you and tomorrow is a better one!

wow! A BIGBLOCK DODGE VISE!! Man, your so badass- you can travel in time take a pic and return to the present for us to view it!! (your pic date!) :prayer:

It's the most baddest-*** vise on the whole f**king planet.

Read 'em and weep, for joy! This is the vise we use in the shop (sorry for the crappy pic). Can't hardly find them anymore, but they DO exist, and they're awesome. Raise your hand if you've seen one before.

I feel bad for you rumblefish360... and Hemimark(that really sux!)... however I must say this has turned into a pretty cool thread. (Love the home made tools... and that Dodge vice. How cool is that!?)

Use the pipe wrench to turn the lower control arm bushing toward the adjuster. It releives the tension from the rubber bushing.

My homemade torion bar tool is kinda the same principal, except I used 1/2 inch steel plate for the top where the u bolts are, and welded a 2 inch by 4 inch block of one inch thick steel plate to the bottom side for something to bash the hammer on. Don't have any pics, but picture a "T" with the "n" of the bolts on top.

LOL, now the Durango brakes down stranding the wife and
Mother-in- law! Ha ha ha, life is fun ain't it!!!???!!!

I busted two of the bolts on my removal tool also. Replaced them with stainless.. done.
You can romove the lca pin nuts and pry the T-bar back out that way too.

Something's going on. I am not having a great week either.

My mom and ex wife were two of those "astrology geeks". I bet there is something going on astrologically. I like to say, "the moon is in conjunction with Uranus (your anus)..." when this stuff goes on. If you know anyone into astrology mention that phrase to them and watch their reaction.... Priceless...

Keep your hands away from your pee-pee, so that doesn't break next...

And I hope this blows over soon.

OMG look at your vice!

Damn Thor..... take it easy next time! lol

I've got a very, very old vice. It was my grand fathers. I will have to go out to the shop and look at it to see if I can get who made it.

Replace the Tbar tool bolts with grade 8 bolts.I have been there and done that with a T Bar tool and soft bolts.

BINGO! I've never had to use a tool, the bars just side out if I back the adjuster bolt all the way out and loosen the LCA stud so the socket can move.

By the way, sorry about your broken stuff. When that happens, I go in the house before something REALLY bad happens.

No big deal on broken stuff. Thanks for the well wishes and thoughts, but, crap happens and it happened that day. Then again a few days later with the wife's Durango not running. It was just a fuel pump. A day or two earlier, my exhaust pipe on the Dakota rotted away. So I did that today. Just grabbed an adapter from the AP store and shoved it into the muffler and the tailpipe into the adapter. Add 1 clamp, done. 20 minutes from start to finish.

Lucky you to never have needed anything but your hands to take a T-bar out.

I broke a china made vise like that a few years ago.
Replaced it with a Wilton and have had no problems, it was like $187.00 bucks shipped.
The nice thing is with the Wilton, you can screw it all the way out and insert it in the other end and it will really hold some large pieces.

I just used one of those tools yesterday, the American Muscle version. I thought the bolts were a little small, but they worked. Removed the torsion adjusters, sprayed a little wd-40, moved the control arm up and down a few times, then wacked the thing with a large hammer a few times. Came right out. I guess I got lucky. I am definately going to change those little bolts out for grade 8's though.
Bummer about your vice, I was just about to buy one of those from Home Depot. I think I'll look around a little more. Luckily you didn't get seriously hurt.

Hawaii; I started to drill mine out for bigger bolts and busted the tap from getting over zealous.I still yet have to get down to the store and purchase a masonry bit to drill it out. I was about to do a 3/8 bolt to attach it all together. I forget the thread count. 18? Not sure. But I figure a 3/8 x 18 bolt would be strong enuff.
