Hi Guys - For a while now I've been gathering up parts for my Duster build. So far I have a six cylinder donar car and a 340 Duster that needs quite a bit of body work that I had planned to use along with about 80% of the parts I will need (old and new). I'm just about ready to get started because I'm about 2/3s through my wives VW I promised I would do first. Anyway yesterday an interesting option became available. A friend of mine told me that he has a 71 340 Demon that I may want to look at. So here is my question: I know they're basically the same car, is there any real value difference between the two? Or am I just looking dollars spent on body repair one verses the other. Appearance wise I think I may like the Demon a little better because of the Dart front end and the factory color is hemi orange verses the blue Duster. But other than that I like them both and am somewhat indiffernet.

What are your thoughts?

I think they made like a bazillion more Dusters than Demons, so the Demon would end up being more collectible/valuable.

so you're saying you have a lead on a 4 speed 340 Demon? JUMP on it, if you can afford it. Way more valuable than a Duster, and certainly far less common, especially with that combo.

Go for the Demon. Most of your Duster parts will interchange. Dusters are plentiful, Demons are not.

What about giving a thought on both vehicle's actual condition? I would rather start with a solid body Duster than a rusted up Demon. But yeah, a matching #'s '71 -340 Demon is a desirable & rare ride.

Ya, I'm supposed to go take a look at it later this week. The only thing I know is that the door post on the driver's side is supposedly crushed. This has been an "all things equal" conversation and I'm glad most are seeming to agreeing with me on the Demon. I can't wait to see it, maybe tomorrow.

The one with the better body and a Duster's Sharktooth grill is the meanest look grill ever made for an A Body Period

How about Dart Sport and duster the number must be a little closer right??????

i always liked the demon better. plus its a 340 4 speed car. demons were only around for 2 years. i would think the demon would be worth more in the end but i'm not sure about that.

Go for the Demon! Way cooler than the cool Duster. Love them both but my heart aches for a 340 4 speed Demon for sure.

hmmm 4spd 340 car.... surprised you even had to ask. hold on a sec I'll volunteer to take the Demon off your hands then you won't have to decide! Don't forget it's possessed!

For the record I have a Duster, when it's done it will be a '71 Demon.

as a owner of a duster and demon...my vote is for the demon.

You see my choice. 4spd is more desirable. I believe there were only 10,000 and change demons produced in 71. You can check hamtrac registry and will give you exact numbers on all options. Try and see if you can get both.

Same car different name and a little different sheet metal. Take your pick. Though I can say from experience that, 340 4 speed's rock!

I like them both as there my 2 fav. A bodies.....really love sharktooth grilles though, and the demon does have those goofy mis-matched wheel openings front to rear....but the choice is yours......

Demon, it's a 4 speed and rarer.
If you like the looks better, then there is no further decision IMHO.

I'm biased because I have a '71 Demon and they were only produced in '71 and '72. If someone dangled that carrot in front of me, I'd pick the Demon hands down. From there, I'd peddle the other cars and parts to try and finance the Demon build. JMO...Bill S.
