The spring relocation boxes are wider than the frame by a 1/2" or so each side. Im thinking they are to be installed centered under each frame rail about a 1/4 over hanging the frame on each side that would make them about 35-3/4" center to center between them just like the frame rails. Does that sound right?

I have seen them mounted more towards the center of the car and flush with the frame rail in the inner fender area of the car. Seems to me that would throw off your center to center measurement and not placing the springs centered directly under the frame. Any comments or suggestions before I take on the project?

Thanks

From an engineering perspective, you're dead on. Centering the load on the frame rails is desireable.

Whether or not this has any actual impact on how the stresses are transmitted in the frame cannot easily be determined, as much as I'd love to run the analysis. You'd most likely be fine running it either way, but I'd stick with your gut and center it on the frame rails.

Centering on the rail may make some of the box intrude on the wheelwell area when minitubbed.

No minitub, not a big deal.

Center them on the frame rail. The shackles will be mounted on the frame rail also. That way everything stays lined up. That's how I mounted mine and it's also mini tubbed. No clearance problems. That small overhang gives you an area for a good solid weld.

I was thinking the 1/4" in the fender area would probably not matter much on a street car. Ideally you would probably run a tire with at least a 1/2" clearance on the frame rail or tub.

Thanks guys!
