904/904 lockup

I was wondering how to identify a 904 and a 904 lockup transmission.
Is there a physical difference or maybe something in the serial #.

.................A non lock up has splines all the way to the end of the input shaft........a l u will have the last 3/4 in smooth.............kim......
 
It is very very obvious. Smooth shinny tip to the input shaft on the lock up one. Would be nice if one could tell from the outside, but I have never figured out how.
 
Thanks for the help I will be picking up a 904 lockup today for free.
Was told that it cam out of a 79 Aspen that had 36K on it. I will also be getting the engine from the same care a slant super six for $400.00 They have been sitting in a barn since 1982 I hope they are not locked up.
