OK, you can can the attitude any damn time, and believe me, you are not makin any friends here. If you stack up all the A bodies over the years, not all of 'em have the same axle width!!!!
And you !!!CAN!!! use "the wrong" width axle, as long as you can compensate with wheel offset.
In my own case, I'm using a Ferd Versaille 9" axle, which is a little bit wider than the 7 1/4 which came out. I had an 8 1/4 out of a 73-74, and it was a little different than the old 7 1/4 For the moment, I'm running temporary wheels on the rear off a Cherokee. This is simply until I get the disc brake front end under, and get all 4 as I want.
