Mopar emblems/decals make it worth that much? Then the walls in my garage must be worth about 1.25 million with all the emblems, decals, car 'art' I have on them...

Who buys a 10K tool box? Seriously....? Would a Sub 1K Kobalt be any worse or even cheaper, General? It holds tools..kinda like a canvas toolbag...Just asking.

They diesel mechanic I bought my Snap On top and side boxes from said he worked with a guy who bought a Kobalt box, loaded his tools in it and snapped the bottom in half. He said they had to get a forklift to move it. I suppose it depends on the amount. quality of your tools and how long you plan on keeping them. Lets say you were a pimp and had the finest quality beautiful high dollar hookers. Would you run them around to you clients in a Limo or a Geo? I have quality tools and feel justified have a big Snap On box to keep them in. Besides that chicks dig Snap On tools.......Or was that Strap On tools. I am at that age I keep getting things mixed up. But just remember ya gets whats ya pays for.

When you buy Snap-On you're buying two things quality and service.

I worked a couple of summers at a John Deere Dealership, one of the guys had the at the time a 7K Snap-On on box. I asked him why he'd pay that much for the box and he replied, "I bought a 4K Matco box and when I loaded it with tools a the bottom drawer bent, when I asked the Matco dealer to warranty the drawer, he said I overloaded the drawer, the next week the Snap-On dealer gave me 3K as a trade-in and said load the drawer as full as I can get it."

There are a lot of tools from Snap-On that are ridiculously over-priced, I've seen them sell rebranded welders for double or triple the price of a Lincoln or Miller. To spend that kind of money is stupid. Their hand tools are simply the best, and if I earned a living using hand tools, I'd own a lot more Snap-On.

Right now the only Snap-On I do own are those that have no Craftsman equivalent. For example, Snap-On sells 4-way angle head wrenches that aren't sold by anyone else in the same angles. A standard combination wrench has a box end on one end and a 15 degree open end wrench at the other, the 4-way angle head wrench heads are angled at 30 degrees and 60 degrees. For tight spaces these wrenches are really cool.

I have the equivalent in Mac.
If you ever worked in a truck or car dealership
that required you to work in different bays at
different times, you would understand.
Working out of a home or small garage doesn't require
the you to be mobile or own 1/4 the tools a pro does.
Time is money and you can't afford to waste time on lack
of proper tools.
A hobbyist can spend a day on a broken bolt or stripped thread,
a pro would lose his *** if he did that, Knowledge and proper tools make all
the difference.

That box is a deal for a pro mechanic.

X2 Good job longarm. It's hard to explain to the layman why techs spend big money on tools and tool storage. toolman

Yep most defiantly, not to mention when you load the drawers down in a good box they are still just as easy to open/close. Not so in a cheaper box.

I have the same box. I bought it to replace my craftsman, and I can vouch for the drawers opening and closing easy when they are loaded down. If I remember right I think the box is around $10,000 new. Mine was a repo I only paid $4000 for it.

What shop do you work at?

I have a bunch of customers/shops down in Long Beach/Seal Beach/Downey/Bellflower area.

I used to work at Coastline Equipment located on Paramount Blvd. in Long Beach. They are a Deere dealership, obviously they deal almost exclusively in construction equipment.

I worked there for three summers in a row when I first started teaching 19 years ago. (Side note: How the F did that happen, how can I be starting my 20th year teaching? ;) ) At the time the service manager was trying to convince me to quit teaching and be a full time Diesel Mechanic. I really liked the people there, the mechanics were top notch and I learned a lot. But in the end, the benefits of being a teacher outweighed being a diesel tech.

These days I try to take the summers off and work on my own projects.

Ill stick with my Craftsman. Its been in heavy use for 20+ years, has traveled the world(literally), has many miles of rolling on it and it still performs like it did the day I bought it. Paid $350 for bottom, middle and top. Id rather buy a Dart with the money than a tool box.

Where do you teach?

I know we've recently had a bunch of AAA Troubleshooting Contest High School shop students up at the Justice Brothers plant/museum.

A bunch of shops that I have worked at ask what kind of tools you have, and then what toolbox... the bigger your investment in your job the higher the wage offer... I havbetter draw slides, lock mechanisme a 10K Mac box ... thicker steel and better draw slides and lock mechanism. well worth it if you do it for a living

i just posted my snapon musclecar box for sale. check it out. and for those are crying about price, crafsman boxes and tools cant hold a candle to snapon or mac or matco. everybody knows that! if snapon was the same price as craftsman, craftsman would be out of business period!

"There is a difference"

With the tools, yes. I have busted my hands and knuckles with cheap tools more times than I can count. A lot of the times, my Snap On tools will take off stuff with less effort than cheaper stuff. I'd rather buy something good than to keep buying cheap stuff ..over and over.

when you buy snapon or mac your buying quality. when your comparing mac + snapon to craftsman and kobalt. its like comparing dodge and plymouth to ford and chevy junk.
