HID Headlight conversion

The best part of it, though, is that you can choose to be thoughtful and informed any time you want, or never at all. It's totally up to you.

i am extremely thoughtful Dan, much more than you can imagine, especially when someone is in the time of need. i am very informed as well, how can i not be when i read every post you write here at fabo. I dont need to be talked down to just because i choose to use my garbage *** HID headlights. theres no need to get personal please

Don't take it personally; my comments apply to anyone with "I'm not interested in the facts; I like them" kinds of attitudes about car lights. A vehicle's lights affect the life safety (and property) of everyone on the road, not just the owner/driver of the car equipped with unsafe lights, and that's where I get off squawking about your lights and your thoughtless (yes, I'm afraid so) rationale for using them.

I appreciate that you read my posts, and I'm glad you find them valuable. I certainly don't insist that you (or anyone else) take my advice. But ya know, sometimes there really are right and wrong answers to technical matters, and while everybody's entitled to make up his own opinion, nobody's entitled to make up his own facts.

That was a little harsh, Dan. I am sure what he has is better than the factory stuff. Besides, that's his opinion and it's what he likes.

i drive the back 40 of colorado springs at night. the roads are pitch black, long and twisty. those factory replacement halogen bulbs are not anywhere near adequate when you have every creature you can think of jumping out in front of your car. i will take my chances with those garbage HID headlights so im not out there running over people or animals. i prefer to actually see where i am going in the hills. its not that i like them because i think they are "cool" . i am 44 years old, the cars are "cool", not the lighting. i "like" them because i can see 5 times farther than the factory stuff.

i know that some folks arent even allowed to drive at night

I wonder how your car would look with a 4 pack of ralley car lamps clamped on the front bumper. I would want some serious light if I was constantly driving in large varmint country. Dan is a little (or a lot) gruff and opinionated at times but he is the expert and is knowledgable on other topics. I spent years reading his posts on slantsix.org and he does give good advice.

I have FUN headlights on my car too.....:happy1:

Take it easy everyone.....please be respectful in your posts even if U don't agree!!!

well , now that i am thoughtless and ignorant , i will still thank you for sparing me a personal attack. :D

Not to worry, normal operation for the all benevolent Big Dan. Just ignore the old man behind the curtain

it would probably look like sh*t, hence the reason i use these lights. when i hit the brights i can see to the next bend, where before, i couldnt see 6 feet in front of me, you talk about dangerous. ive spent a lot of time getting them dialed onto the road . when i drive the backgroads getting to where i need to go, the last thing i need is to have a deer jump out where i cant see it and have it end up in my windshield. i know Dan is a lighting pro , and i respect what he says, but im sure as h*ll not ignorant nor thoughtless.

i bet a pair of those garbage *** HIDs would have prevented this

First of all, I am with 73AbodEE, I just plain want, no actually change that to... NEED to see at night and all the critters! I have had HID's in the last 2 of my trucks and will say yet again WILL NOT have anything else (illegal or morally wrong, really don't care...I am a former lawman and don't give a hoot either). My HID's have saved me, a minimum of 10 times, from wiping out a critter and my truck.

I put anywhere from 60,000 to 90,000 KM on roads in the middle of nowhere with anything from a coyote, deer, moose, etc roaming around and probably 2/3rd's of that driving is night time. I have tried almost every bulb out there & the only ones that really make a difference is Nighthawks, but the HID's put them to shame with at least 3 times more light.

I just wanted to know if anyone had any fitment problems or otherwise, not start or re-kindle a multinational lighting argument.
My end game is to have an extremely bright light for the few times I will have the Duster out after dark, booze cruizin'!!! <---(J/K) LOL

slantsixdan - you have some viable options in your post: http://www.forabodiesonly.com/mopar/showpost.php?p=807382&postcount=9

......but if they fail to provide a really bright light, HID's it will be! hehe

I live out in the woods as well. I have an 02 Cheby that I have 4 Hella's on the front of it as well as having the low beams wired to stay on with the high beams. Anyone can say what they want but at least I can see at night. My lights have kept me from hitting critters more than once. I am hoping to get a different bumper built for the front, but one way or the other I will end up with a set of these on it soon. DOT approved? Don't know......don't care. Meet all sorts of strict standards? Don't know........don't care. What I do know is they throw a boat load of very useable light. My friend that owes me a bumper is a retailer for them, so there price tag is not so scary. Tossing around the idea of looking for another grill for my Dart and seeing if I could not mount some of these lights on my car.....

I don't have a problem with your truck as long as you have the lights off the moment you see oncoming lights. Those things will blind oncoming long before their headlights have any effect on your vision.

Will not use the off road lights until I am out of town. Use them when I am going from Spokane to Phoenix a lot, very little traffic on the route I take early in the morning/late at night....

Doug, I'm sure you're aware but just in case you're not, California law says off road lights must be covered when on the highway - use only permitted off road.
I'd hate for one of our CHP to pull you over just because your Hellas aren't wearing their covers - you know how it is when they're having a slow day.

what always gets me about these threads is the sudden major concern for the absolute letter of the law. No where else will you see such a concern for other folks on the road. Throw a 800 hp hemi in your dart with drum brakes, heck run it on nirtomethane! man that's cool. The federal govenment just announced they will no longer enforce our immigration laws passed by congress you really think headlights are that big of a deal? Our local officials won't enforce drug laws which means we have 1000s of folks stoned off their butts driving at any given time. I'd hate my headlights to be a little to bright for their dilated bloodshot eyes. It just all seems funny to me.

Mazybe we will soon pay a hid light tax. HID lights improve vision for the driver 10x in most cases. I had 35w hi beam only on my 02 Cummins and they were brilliant. For high speed off road night running I had 4 Hella rallye 4000s that I converted to 55w HID and they were amazing. Had 2 spots in the middle and a pair of euros on the outside. I bought all of my HID kits from DDM tuning.

i have to agree with Dan. that man knows his stuff. It all about safety. "looks good at night" or "bright enough" isnt actually good enough...lol
