Ok, so I know there are several posts on viper callipers, I am still a little confused.
I have been trying to look at ar engineering, but their website appears to be suspended, are they still in business?

I have a 73 dart, w disc brakes already.
I have ready that you need drumb front spindles, is this true? cannot I not use my disc spindles? If I need drum spindles, i have a set from my wrecked 72 dart, woudl those bolt onto the 73?

Aside from are engineering, is there anything else i need to buy? besides calipers and rotors?

Thanks in advance

You need 73-76 A body DRUM spindles to use the AR Engineering parts and pieces, to do the Viper caliper conversion.
Their parts are designed around the DRUM spindles, so your existing disc spindles don't work with their parts.
And NO, you can't use 72 spindles either.
Different inner wheel bearing diameters.
I have sold quite a few Drum spindles to do their conversion, but currently i am out of stock of them.

Ty for the reply hemi, i'll have to locate some spindles then. Thats assuming ARE is still in business as their site is dead.

another thing, i just bought and im process of installing a rebuild kit from pst suspension, for the 73 w disc...would drum spindles change any of that?

How much different are the b/e body drum brake spindles?

Since your only going to find a drum brake spindle on a 70-72 E body car, and a 72 and earlier B body car.
The difference between those, and the 73-76 A body Drum spindle is the diameter of the "shaft" where the inner wheel bearing is.
73-76 spindles use a larger diameter inner wheel bearing, and rotors used for the conversions, use modern day, low cost, easy to get, rotors, wether they are the standard 10.8 inch diameter, or the 11 3/4 inch rotors.

Ya, i have AR Engineering bookmarked in my computer, and found out that their account has been suspended.
Now you got me wondering, if they have gone under. Dunno?

Hope not, i really wanted viper calipers.

So hem, your saying that not only do i need front DRUM spindles for this conversion, I need front DRUM spindles off of a B or E body car? and that those will just bolt on to my dart? I have a feeling my new pst suspension kit is gonna be a waste.

I have sent an IM to andyf asking, as well as admin/webmaster of his site, no reply yet.

You need the DRUM spindles from a 73-76 A Body car, as those spindles are for the larger diameter inner wheel bearing.

Here's a photo of a pair of 73-76 A body, DRUM brake spindles, that use the larger diameter inner wheel bearing.
What you would be needing for the Viper calipers, with the 11 3/4 inch rotor.
And again, i currently don't have any more in stock.
They sell pretty fast for me, when i have them.
But some other members more than likely will be able to hook you up with a pair.

mancini racing also sells the adapters http://chucker54.stores.yahoo.net/caadki.html

I did the viper swap

the drum brake spindles do not have a square mounting point for the brackets to fit. The disk does . (if i recall correctly)

the 72 spindle uses a smaller upper ball joint and i do believe a smaller diameter spindle. The bearing from the 11.75 rotor fits the 73 spindle and NOT the 72. So you will have to find yourself spindles

you will also need to buy the flex hoses, banjo fittings, copper washers (for banjo bolts) brake line adapters, and brake pads :)

I have no clue if ar engineering is still in business but they were updating their website a few weeks back and everything was changing. I contacted Andy off that website and he responded the next day

Andy is all over the Moparts board, you can usually find him in the "corners are best forum". You might try to check with him there about his website.

I have his 1st gen viper kit, it's awesome!

So I was noticing that viper caliper is black, I want the red calipers. Black calipers appear to come on the base viper, red on higher models. Will the red calipers still work w the ar engineering kit?

There is a viper brake upgrade kit for sale on BBD. I believe there was a kit for sale in the mechanical parts section here as well.

Aj

Lotta information in that one. Still confused.
All I know is I want the red viper calipers, those apear to be gen2.
Front what I understand, I will still need to aquire some 73' dart drum spindles, plus andyf' ARE kit, assuming he is still around.

Still waiting on a reply from him, the webmaster, or the site to pop back up.

Sweet, he got it back up. Looks like it may have changed registrars or hosting...ty for the headsup.
pauly the man of the hour

how u do it wracks?
As it sits, when i get all the suspension put backtogether, i am still gonna be without brakes cuz they car didn't come with the rotors...before i go buying stock stuff....may be prudent to do the viper thing.
