How to keep CB magnet mount from scratchin paint?

I have run cb's for years and was also know as a fairly good radio doctor.I have run way more than the FCC allows as far as wattage goes. What i have done many times in the past
mainly using Wilson magnet mounts if your running the magnet mount on the trunk or roof i fount it best to go to wall mart buy a one foot length on micro fiber cloth cut to size and place under your antenna. now if your running bare foot (no extra wattage)or if your running a good export radio.you may need to readjust your stinger length to correct the match. Not there are many variables to consider such as the magnet help create the ground for the antenna as its part of the shunt feed ground loop. you cant help trick this loop buy running a heavy ground from radio chassis to a good ground do the same front any box (heater) from the linear chassis keeping this ground short and un-shielded braided if you can get it i also recommend where you can skin the coax as close to the magnet base as you can but still keeping it out of the weather you know just after it enters the car and ground this. All these little steps help the stray RF and help the unit not only match better but also talk and receive better.

Just my 2 cents and 20 years of owning fixing and running several really good set ups.

P.S. If its on a car with electronics run all power and antenna wires away from car electronics. I have set cars up with over 2500 watts in new cars..Talking from experience...
