i have two identical engine stands. both rated at 750 lbs from harbor frieght. they have the metal wheels. i do not plan to move it once the car is on on it, but has anyone ever tried?

I don't think you could get full 360 degree rotation?

Wouldn't the center of gravity be off to rotate the car. I would also think they would be too close to roll the body unless you made them taller.

right, i plan to cut the uprights and insert square stock into them, and reweld them. also plan to add side to side supports. i was just wondering if you guys think the pot metal like wheels will hold up even if used on concrete. also, i am not worried about turning the car completly over, as all metal work and all metal is bare under the car, from all the new metal that was installed by previous owner. i really want to flip it enough to do the seam sealing and i want to paint the underneath body color and then and only then apply undercoating

If the concrete was real smooth I would think the wheels would hold up. Is there 4 wheels per stand?

It gets done all the time. I would do it, personally, to save time. If you got two identical ones, go for it.

yes, they do have the 4 wheels, plus, i was going to weld the units together(when i bought them, they got bolted together)

I'v pondered doing the same thing. I think it would definitely work with some modifications for safety. If you build one, I'd like to see a picture of it.

Just remeber your life wiil depend on it. I would start from scatch with 2x2 square tubing and build your own. This way you could make as tall and as wide as needed with less welds to stress. Just my 2 cents.

Just make sure the base is wider then the max height of the rotisserie. Otherwise it may want to tip as you rotate the car.

also you need to take the angles into consideration. most engine stands have a slight pitch to the pivot.
i built mine from scratch, and would again. you will spend more time trying to make those stands work.
most metal supply shops will cut the pieces to any length ( sometimes even cut angles for you) for no charge.
all said and done with 7 Very heavy duty castors and the steel i had about 250.00 in mine.
